Latest firmware has ruined my C220.
Latest firmware has ruined my C220.
Hello.
I have two Tapo C220 cameras and both have been working just fine. However last night one of the cameras decided to auto update the firmware to the latest 1.3.1 and now the camera acts like it's running 1-2 fps at best. This is the live video and anything recorded. The whole thing has turned into an unusable slideshow. The other C220 is still on firmware 1.2.5 and it still running fine as normal (I switched off auto update for this one now)
I tried swopping the camera positions of the two C220s and that didn't help. The one on 1.3.1 is a slideshow no matter where it's positioned. I checked the framerate and both are set to the usual 25fps. It must be something from the update that has caused this so how can I revert back to the previous 1.2.5? Any help appreciated.

@Souvik543 Go into the camera's settings and choose Advanced Settings and then under Display Settings you should see Compatible Mode.

- Had no problems with my C200 for about 1.5 years until September 19, 2025
- Then a firmware update came along and the camera could no longer log into my Wi-Fi (WPA2 / WPA3).
So, here's the thing:
I bought a new C220, and this camera immediately set up with my Wi-Fi configuration above.
- The app version is, of course, also 3.13.818
- However, the camera is still on firmware 1.2.1! And it will stay there ;-) I've disabled automatic updates because I suspect the problem was caused by firmware 1.3.

Hi,
Please check the hardware version of your Tapo C200. Is it V3? If your Tapo C200 V3 can't connect to your Wi-Fi after a recent firmware update, please try setting your Wi-Fi's security type to WPA2-PSK only and then check if it helps.

After an auto update to firmware 1.4.3, my C200 v3 cannot connect to wpa2/wpa3 network anymore. So I bought a C220 which was still on firmware 1.2.1 and the connection to wpa2/wpa3 network does work!
Then, I setup a seond router, set the wifi to wpa2 only and the old C200 could connect immedeately, even with firmware 1.4.3
THIS IS NOT A SOLUION FOR ME! Some of my devices nd wpa3
Please fis as soon as possible or just put firmware 1.4.2 or 1.2.1 back. Therewas nothing wrong with it

Hi,
Please note that the Tapo C200 and Tapo C220 are different models and they use different firmware versions. The Tapo C220 is now functioning properly, and you can update it to the latest firmware if you wish. Usually, it will continue to work with your home Wi-Fi.
For the Tapo C200 V3, temporarily, you can continue using the second router to provide an internet connection, or you may try enabling a guest network on your home router and then set the WPA2-PSK security type for the Tapo C200 to connect.
Our support team is analyzing the behavior on the Tapo C200 and will release an official firmware to fix it as soon as possible. Please pay attention to the Tapo C200 V3's Firmware Release Notes page on our official website for updates.
Best Regards

@Solla-topee I also have the problem since few days that my C200 won't connect to my WIFI. As recommended I changed to WPA2-PSK but sadly it still won't connect.

Hi,
Please try to enable a hotspot Wi-Fi on your phone, set the wireless security type to WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK, factory reset the camera, configure it with another phone, connect it to the hotspot Wi-Fi, and then check if you can set up the camera successfully.
If yes, please provide the following information for further assistance.
1. Send me (@Solla-topee) the camera's MAC address via a private message.
2. Check the Tapo app's version.
3. When trying to connect the camera to your router's Wi-Fi, what error message appears when configuring the camera in the Tapo app?
