P110 - Randomly losing connection and erroneous energy readings
Hello all,
I've been using Tapo smart devices for several months now and for the most part no issues at all. However over the last few weeks a few of them have been misbehaving.
Issue #1 - Loss of connection followed by random spike in reported energy use
Today (and what prompted me to reach out) was one of my plugs was not reporting into the Tapo app nor Home Assistant. The plug had an orange light showing no connectivity. Strange as it is right by my main router/AP and the plugs by it were connected fine. I unplugged it, plugged it back in and it immediately connected but the app was showing a huge spike in energy, more than it would have used during the time it lost connection:

This is what it shows. However if we compare it to yesterday which is a typical day of usage for this device:

We can see a huge discrepency. I expect a spike if it's the energy used during the downtime, but 7kWh is over 7x more than what it would use in a day. I've had this happen on one or two other plugs too.
Issue #2 - Devices randomly turning on
Twice I have had a Tapo plug power on by itself. Both times the plug was set to default to "Off" and nothing was set for them to turn on, no timers/schedules etc. Today my rice cooker turned on at 5am. The only possible reason is my router restarted at 5am to perform an update so connectivity would have been briefly lost, but I wouldn't expect this to cause a device to switch on?
Any help would be appreciated. I am very much deep into the Tapo ecosystem with probably 40-50 devices so do not wish to replace them all.

@JC1989 I have the same Issue 1. I have a 13kWh spike (impossible), some days I have 0 energy consumption. The power graph proves the energy graph wrong in my case, because I can see the power usage for the last 7 days, but in energy I have 0 for 2-3 days in a row.
I haven't experienced any random turn on issues, but I do have problems with device connectivity and reliability.
Some devices P100 and P110 are randomly go offline and can't even control them manually using the power button. I have to unplug and plug them back in to get them working again for some time.
It is the most annoying thing a product like this could do. WiFi coverage is tested with B/G/N devices and all of them (including Tapo cameras) work without issues, but even wifi issue shouldn't cause the physical power button from stop functioning.
I bought another P110 recently that is having the same energy monitoring issues.
I would recommend any other manufacturer over this at this point, because it's just make life harder not easier.

Can you send the device Mac address to me through private message? We will have a support agent to check it.
As for the random on issue, check if you have any relevant automation created, including the Tapo automation and automation created on the third-party platforms. It is also important to check the schedule rules set on the third-party platform.

I'm having the same issue. It has been a few months since you last posted on the upcoming firmware, but I don't think it has come yet?
I assume my problem is the same.
Connection, works fine a few days, then loss of connection and it blinks orange/green. When switching off at the tapo device, it will randomly come on during the day, draining electricity.
I have no choice but to remove the device and reinstall.
In fact, I had this issue on one device and thought it was a device issue and bought a second one. Second one has the same issue.

I had one of my P110s drop off the other day. I have to go through set up again everytime it happens

@JC1989 for me it just locks up and have to re-plug to get it working again. LED is off. Probably the system crashes on it or the wifi module. I have no interest in debugging them. I already returned all plugs in warranty. I have some left that are not in warranty and I can't return, would be great if TPlink release a fix for them instead of making them e-waste.
In the past I suggested some of my friends and clients to use these because it can work in HA but they experienced the same and I told them to return them asap while they can.

The issue discussed in this post has been addressed in P110's later firmware 1.3.4. Your case is a different situation, but there is a solution, check this article for more details: What to do if Tapo P110 V1 1.3.4 requires reconfiguration frequently (LED blinking amber and green)?
