Model: Tapo D230S1
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.19 Build 20241011 rel. 67020

Hi,

I have replaced my Nest doorbell with a Tapo D230S1 however despite the app seemingly being simple I must be missing something fundamental.

As I have other security cameras in the vicinity, I don't need the D230S1 to send a push notification to our devices every time there is motion, I just need it to notify me when the doorbell is pressed and I can look through the recorded motion events if and when I need to. If I turn off notifications for motion, I don't get any notifications when the doorbell is pressed. The only way to get round this seems to be to set up a new Smart Action which then tells the Hub to ring and a push notification to be sent when the doorbell is pressed. However doing this has stopped my phone being called when the doorbell is pressed.

The scenario I am after is simply:

  1. Doorbell camera to detect motion in my specified detection zone* and to record/save video accordingly to my Hub (H200).
  2. When doorbell is pressed, Hub to ring and push notifications sent to phones (and to record the video which presumably falls under (1) above anyway).
  3. Ringcall to be made to a phone.

(1) & (2) are the key things, (3) might be useful but despite looking at all the online info, the options don't appear in my settings (Android or IOS!).

I suspect the answer is staring me right in the face but I can't work it out! frown

* As an aside, the doorbell keeps picking up motion outside of my detection zone. Our front path is about 6m long and the detection zone goes about 4m so that there is sufficient time for the camera to trigger and record as someone approaches the door. However it keeps picking up passing traffic (mainly people walking and cycling) despite them being a good 3-4m past the end of the detection zone. I didn't get this with the Nest doorbell so are there any tips for why this might be happening?

Thanks!

Keep the Notification enabled but uncheck all the activity types in notification settings. This ensures the doorbell press notification or ring call arrives normally, and there are no detection notifications since none are selected. The detection and recording still function since they're not disabled.

As for the detection issue, did you set a separate activity zone for different detection types? You may share some screenshots of your setup here.

@Wayne-TP thanks for responding. I have changed the settings as you have suggested and will test accordingly.

For the detection zones, I am keeping things simple so the same zone is set for all:

There is about 2m from the end of the zone to the end of the path but the camera is catching people walking past in the road and not always right next to the path. Unless I extend the zone sufficiently, the camera doesn't have enough time to trigger and capture anything meaningful.

Do you see any shadow or lights enter the activity zone when people or cars pass by? That will trigger motion detection as well.

To capture accurate detection events from human or cars, consider disabling the motion detection but keep the AI detection enabled, like person detection, vehicle detection, etc.

@Wayne-TP not that is obvious but I guess there could be some reflection from bikes/cars. I'll continue to monitor as it doesn't happen all the time.

It would seem the notification suggestions you made have worked smiley
