The UKs GDR (General Data Protection) laws require that any videos made of public spaces not be held any longer than necessary.

This is an issue for doorbells that point straight onto a street, recording people walking past. So, we are, technically, breaking the law.

Currently the only way to delete videos is to either format the SD card, or regularly remove the SD card, put it into a computer and delete the individual files. Neither are good solutions.

To comply with the law, can we please either have an option to automatically delete videos after a set time (eg 7 days, for example), or the ability to easily remove the videos.

  @Samo

Hi,

Tapo cameras, including doorbell cameras, do not support the feature of deleting videos after a set time or deleting specific videos from the SD card, which does not violate any laws. As a camera manufacturer, we cannot control how users utilize the cameras, and we have never advertised that our cameras support these deletion features in a way that misleads users into purchasing our products.

For your reported usage scenario, our Tapo cameras include a Privacy Zone feature that may help. You can set up a privacy zone in the camera's Device Settings > Video & Display > Privacy Zone page to restrict camera recording of public spaces, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

We appreciate your feedback regarding the desire for video deletion features. We will log it and forward it to the relevant department for consideration.

If you need further assistance related to compliance, we recommend reaching out to privacy@tp-link.com for additional support.

Best Regards
