C310 Error - It looks like you've reached your device limit for playing this video

I have 7 Tapo cameras, most of them are C310s. One of them I have added to my TP-Link Vigi DVR for continuous recording and I've also added it to my Hikvision DVR for display on the TVs inside the house. This all works great but now I cannot view that camera via the Tapo app as you appear to have deliberately limited the functionality to 2nr streams.
Please can I ask why you have done this?
Please can I ask if you can increase this limit to 3 please?

Hi,
My previous explanation may have caused some misunderstanding. The following details may clarify the situation.
Typically, when streaming the camera's live feed on a device, you need to select the video quality/resolution. The Tapo Camera has specific limitations: no more than two devices can stream the camera simultaneously in high quality/resolution, and no more than two devices can stream the camera simultaneously in low quality/resolution. (If you subscribe to the Tapo Care plan, the service will count as a device in high resolution. One RTSP/Onvif connection will count as a device. If you stream the camera locally in the Tapo app, the phone will count as a device. All the devices that stream the camera remotely will count as a device.)
In the video instructions, you can see that choosing the resolution is required when adding the camera to the VIGI NVR. Currently, you have selected 720P resolution in the Tapo app. If both of your NVRs are also set to 720P resolution, one of the devices may be unable to stream the camera. And in this situation, you can adjust the resolution on your NVRs to test whether that resolves the issue.
If different resolutions are being used, I recommend inserting a microSD card into your camera and following the guidelines below to collect the camera logs for further analysis.

Hi,
If you are streaming the camera on the two DVRs via the high quality stream1, please go to the camera's Device Settings > Video & Display > Video Quality page on the Tapo app to select the lower Video Quality option, and then check if you can stream the camera on the Tapo app.

@Solla-topee The camera is set to the lowest quality. There are 3 options in the camera settings...
2K (2304x1296)
1080P (Full HD Video)
720P (Data-saving)
The camera is set to 720P
Instead of video the Tapo app is showing a black mask with the words "It looks like you've reached your device limit for playing this video. Tap to retry."
This is a piece of hardware that I own so I do not understand why it's physical connection to a DVR that I also own would therefore trigger an imposed limit on functionality built into the Tapo app's software. I'm not aware of any technical reason why the device can't support IP connectivity to my 2 NVRs and still be accessed via its proprietary mobile app.
I look forward to your help to resolve this.

Hi,
When watching the camera's live feed and video recordings, there are limitations on the number of devices that can access them simultaneously. For instance, only one device can view video recordings from the SD card on the Tapo app at a time, and no more than three devices can simultaneously watch the camera's live feed locally. In your scenario, each RTSP/ONVIF stream counts as one device.
To further analyze the issue you are experiencing, please confirm the following information:
1. Have you subscribed to the Tapo Care plan?
2. What URLs are you using for the RTSP/ONVIF streams on your DVR?
3. Are you seeing the error message on the live view page of the Tapo camera or the Playback page?
4. If you turn off the Wi-Fi on your phone and use mobile data, can you watch the camera's live feed in the Tapo app?

Please see below the answers to your questions...
1. Have you subscribed to the Tapo Care plan?
No I have not subscribed to the Tapo care plan as I have a TP-Link Vigi NVR1008 and a Tapo Hub with SD card for all my recording needs.
2. What URLs are you using for the RTSP/ONVIF streams on your DVR?
URLs? Not sure I understand your question. The Tapo C310 camera is connected directly to the TP Link Vigi NVR via a LAN IP address and is then viewed over the WAN (internet) context using the TP Link Vigi app version 2.7.16. The same camera is also connected to a Hikvision NVR in the same manner and is viewed via the Hik-Connect app. So that is 2 devices - why won't the Tapo App on my phone work as you suggest 3 are allowed?
3. Are you seeing the error message on the live view page of the Tapo camera or the Playback page?
Actually no. The camera playback page in the Tapo app will correctly display video of recorded detection events. The error is on the live stream only.
4. If you turn off the Wi-Fi on your phone and use mobile data, can you watch the camera's live feed in the Tapo app?
No. turning off wifi and using mobile data makes no difference the error is still there.
So I can confirm that although the C310 is connected via IP/ONVIF to only 2 NVRs the Tapo app still refuses to display the live stream for this camera.

@Solla-topee I have done some testing this afternoon, adding and removing cameras from the NVRs and it appears that your firmware restricts live stream access to 2 and not 3 as you stated in your reply. As soon as I have only one IP/ONVIF registration against my NVRs the Tapo app will stream the live feed. As soon as I add the C310 to a second NVR the Tapo App displays the error message so you have blocked it at 2 devices not 3.
This is very disappointing for a fully purchased hardware item to be deliberately restricted via firmware in this way for no apparent technical reason. Was your question about further purchase of a Tapo care subscription inferring that the imposed firmware restriction is removed if this additional product is purchased?

Hi,
As you can see in the following instructions, the URLs of the RTSP stream for the Tapo camera are "For high-quality stream1: rtsp://IP Address/stream1" and "For low-quality stream2: rtsp:// IP Address/stream2".
How to view Tapo camera on PC/NAS/NVR through RTSP/Onvif Protocol
When streaming the cameras through a third-party NVR or the Tapo app, please note that you cannot exceed two devices for high-quality streams and two devices for low-quality streams. Based on your situation, it may be that all three devices use the same quality stream camera(your phone uses the low-quality 720P). Therefore, I want to clarify the URLs used to stream the camera on the NVRs.
If different URLs are being used, I recommend inserting a microSD card into your camera and following the guidelines below to collect logs for further analysis.
How to get the log of Tapo Camera
By the way, the camera limits the number of devices streaming simultaneously. This limitation will not be modified after subscribing to Tapo Care, and the Tapo Care service will occupy a high-quality stream.

All of my C310 cameras are set to 720p in the Tapo app which is the lowest video quality. At this setting 2 devices appears to be an enforced limit via the Tapo app or camera firmware and not 3 as you have stated above.
Unfortunately your explanation of apparently having 2 different "URLs" to effectively manage 2 different 'streams' one for low quality and one for high does not accord with any available settings visible in the Tapo app or on my TP-Link NVR. See here in your own TP-Link set up video there is zero reference to URLs or the need to set up for 2 different streams...
How to set up Tapo wireless camera with VIGI NVR
The video shows exactly what I would expect - setup via LAN IP address and camera ONVIF account password. No mention of URLs.
Am I missing something? Your answer does not really make much sense at the moment.

Still not clear how I achieve the 3rd live stream you mentioned. I have 2 local devices that the camera streams to via an IP address on my local area network. The Tapo app is by definition not a device - it is a remote viewing application running on a handheld mobile device. Yet it does not display the camera if 2 local devices are connected to it.
Is it not the case that your earlier post suggesting a 3rd stream was possible was incorrect?

Hi,
I updated the previous reply to explain the camera limitations. In your situation, the key point is the resolution your two NVRs use when streaming cameras. For example, if they both use 720P resolution, then when you use 720P resolution on your Tapo app, it will exceed the limit(no more than two devices can stream the camera simultaneously in low quality/resolution), so the phone cannot stream the camera. To solve the issue, you can switch the resolution on the NVR or Tapo app.
If the resolutions used by your NVRs and phone are different, we need you to provide the camera log to analyze the issue further.
