Archer BE230 – Speed Capped at 150Mbps in Access Point Mode (Both WiFi & LAN)
Archer BE230 – Speed Capped at 150Mbps in Access Point Mode (Both WiFi & LAN)

Hi Team,
I’m facing a consistent issue with my Archer BE230 when running it in Access Point mode.
-
I have a 1 Gbps internet connection.
-
When using the BE230 in Router mode, I get full speeds—900+ Mbps up and down on WiFi devices, which is excellent.
-
However, when I switch it to Access Point mode, the speed drops drastically to a hard cap of around 150 Mbps, both on WiFi and wired clients.
-
The AP is connected to a MikroTik E50UG, which acts as the main router. The MikroTik is confirmed to deliver 900+ Mbps to other Ethernet devices directly.
This suggests the issue is isolated to the BE230 when operating in Access Point mode. I’ve tested with multiple client devices and cables—results are consistent.
Has anyone else encountered this limitation in AP mode? Is this a known bug or configuration issue? Any insights or firmware updates that can resolve this?
Thanks in advance for your support.

so i did some experiment and found out that there is a bug in the WAN port of mikrotik causing pause packtes to be sent hence the low speed on BE230 AP (lan and wifi) mikrotik is aware of this and are fixing this for now the solution is to use some other ports as a WAN port BE230 was not the culprit of this issue Mikrotik E50UG is the trouble maker
@Joseph-TP , @woozle thanks for the support

Hi,
Does the 150 Mbps limit happen when the BE230 is connected to the main router via the blue WAN port or when connected via a yellow LAN port or in both scenarios?

when connected to blue port the AP is giving 150 up and down but when using yellow ports the download is 150 and the upload goes upto 800+ mbps

Do you remember whether you changed a lot of settings on the router before you switched it to Access Point Mode?
In my experience it is always a good idea to reset a multi-mode router to default settings right before switching the router to its intended operation mode and only then begin to modify any settings. As we know, there is almost no software on earth that is completely free of software bugs and I am not so sure whether carrying over settings from one operation mode to another is something that gets thoroughly tested.

Okay.
However, if you've set the LAN IP address of the BE230 to 192.168.1.1, then what is the LAN IP address of the MikroTik E50UG main router?
I am just wondering, because most users would give the main router the 192.168.1.1 address and then use an IP address between 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.254 for the AP.

i set the ip 192.168.1.1 in router mode but when i switch to AP mode i set its ip to static and as 192.168.1.2 and also change the dhcp from AUTO to OFF (idk why there is a dhcp option in AP mode )

Hi@Yesrab,
Thank you for contacting our community.
Please test the wired link speed of the BE230's LAN ports: How to check the associated/link speed on a wired client.
Is there any switch between the main router and the BE230? If so, please remove the switch and connect the BE230 directly to the main router.
Please also try different LAN ports of the ISP modem for the BE230.

Hi@Yesrab,
Many thanks for your reply.
You mentioned that the BE230 can get 900+ Mbps up and down on WiFi devices when working in wireless router mode. Is the BE230 used as a main router at this time? Or is it used as a satellite router after connecting to MikroTik E50UG?
If it is the first case, please test the actual speed of the BE230 when connected to MikroTik E50UG and running wireless router mode. And vice versa.
In addition, when the BE230 is running in access point mode, please connect the LAN1 port of the BE230 to MikroTik E50UG, and the LAN2 port to connect to the speed test PC. Please test the actual speed again. (Make sure to bypass the 2.5G WAN port)
