Feature Request for Tapo C325WB: Dual Detection and Timed Privacy Mode

Model: Tapo C325WB
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.4

The motion and person detection on the Tapo C325WB often misinterprets tree shadows as movement or even as people.

  1. It would be very helpful to have a dual detection option — meaning the alarm siren would only be triggered if both motion and person detection are activated simultaneously or within a short time frame. This could greatly reduce false alarms caused by environmental factors like moving shadows.

  2. Another useful feature would be the ability to switch the camera to Privacy Mode for a specific duration, after which it would automatically return to monitoring mode. This would allow for temporary privacy without needing to manually reactivate the camera.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your feedback here.

1. Regarding your first feedback, requiring both motion and human detection to trigger an alarm may result in some motions going unnoticed. We recommend reviewing the suggestions in the following link to adjust your detection parameters and see if this improves the situation.
How to reduce motion detections from rain, snow, or insects, etc.

2. Regarding your second feedback, you can achieve this feature via the Smart Action > Shortcut/Automation feature.
For example, if you want to enable privacy mode for 10 minutes and then have it automatically turn off, you can try the following configuration.
* Add a Shortcut entry > Add an action to turn on the privacy mode > Add a Delay 10 minutes action > Add an action to turn off the privacy mode > Tap Create > Set a name and icon for the shortcut entry, click on Save.

If you want to turn on and off privacy mode at a specific time, you can do so by adding an automation entry.

How to create Smart Action (Automation or Shortcut) on the Tapo app

Best Regards

1) With properly calibrated sensitivity, this shouldn't result in missing an event. In my case, no settings help because trees cast shadows on the terrace, and the camera often detects shadows as motion or even as people. That's why the dual mode—simultaneous detection of motion and a person should help minimize this issue. Looks like I’ll have to buy a camera with a PIR sensor.

2) As for the second option, I’d need to have Geofencing enabled, but that doesn’t solve the problem either.

Hi,
1. Is it possible to exclude the area on the terrace where the tree's shadows are shown from the camera's detection zone? In this case, even if there are changes in the shadows, it would not trigger the camera's detection functionality.

2. The shortcut entry I mentioned in this post can achieve the usage scenario of turning on the camera's privacy mode for a specific duration and then automatically turning it off. This usage scenario does not require enabling the Geofencing feature.
Please clarify the specific usage scenario you have in mind, and I'll check whether the Tapo C325WB can meet your needs.

Best Regards
