Model: Tapo H110
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.5.12 Build 240320 Rel. 123648

Hello, I am making this post because I am having trouble getting my TPLink and Tapo devices to perform the one function I bought them for.  The function should be simple: to have a Hub monitor a Contact Sensor on a local WiFi (no internet) and sound an alarm if opened.

I've set my WiFi to only 2.4Ghz, in channel 01, using WPA2-PSK [AES]. I set the router to static IP and the DNS to 8.8.8.8 after some AI suggestions from TPLink, but the problem behaves exactly the same.

I'm experiencing an issue where the Tapo app can see the devices, but tells me that there are no devices available when I try to set up an automation. Also, in one of the Smart tabs it has a yellow error message that the "network is unstable".  The app can connect and see the devices fine, and controlling them from my phone connected to the same network seems to work well, I can manually trigger the alarm on the hub and the contact sensors show the correct open / closed status.  However, it does not let me use the contact sensors as an input for automation, telling me that there are no devices available and even has an error message that the network is unstable.  The signal strength is strong as I am trying to set them up right next to the router.

My configuration is as such:

Router: TP-Link Omada ER605

WiFi: Netgear Wireless Access Point WAC104

Hub: Tapo Hub H100 (firmware 1.5.12 Build 240320 Rel.123648)

Tapo Sensor: Tapo Contact Sensor T110 (firmware 1.9.0 Build 230704 Rel.154559

Thank you to anyone that can provide insight in helping me to get this to work, I'll happily provide any more information needed.

Hi @AroEngi,

Can you please describe the steps you did?

I also had issue when wanted to create automation for a smart button.

As far as I remember, my device was available in the app for automation and I could choose actions as well but it wasn't possible to finish the process, the app was just continuously "rotating".

So, whe I tried to create new smart action via the page of the button, it was failed...

However, I could create the expected smart actions using smart button next to Me button...

So I basically just followed the preliminary setup steps.

First, I established the local network is am dedicating for this project.  This involved setting the wireless access point to the 2.4Ghz setting and setting up the TPlink router, verifying that I'm able to connect over WiFi.

Then, I installed the Tapo Application on my phone.  In the Devices section, I went to add device and first added the Hub by following the prompts (this involved holding the Sync button to get the flashing LED, connecting my phone WiFi to the Hub, inputting the WiFi password).  It shows in my devices and I can manually trigger it to alarm or change the tone.

After that, I installed my two sets of T110 contact sensors, which was fairly simple and just involved pulling out the battery plastic tab and searching for them.  They also show up in Devces and report the correct status, updating when it is opened or closed.

When the network is on, it finds and recognized these devices, its only when I go to the "smart" tab for automation to try to set up the alarm that it gives me the network unstable error code and shows No devices available when I go into triggers.

For your case, we recommend reaching the technical support team directly. Reproduce the problem, then submit an app log within the Tapo app. How to get the log of Tapo app

Just want to be clear, did you receive the error prompt 'no available devices' when configuring the automation Trigger? Does the same situation occur when the WiFi has internet access?

Hey thank you,  I will try to get this log taken and see if I can upload it.  I have a ticket open with TPlink technical support but so far it has been unhelpful, just sending me very basic setup videos.

Yes, I repeatedly get the error whenever I'm in the Smart tab trying to set up an automation to sound an alarm.  There's a few that I see, if I try to do a custom automation, it'll tell me "no available devices" and not list any of the devices listed in my Tapo Home under automation triggers.  Or if I try to use the prefab automation "Door/Window Intrustion Alarm", it gives me the error "Cannot create automation.  No available devices or current devices do not support the automation".

In my usage purpose, the dedicated WiFi network does not have any internet, and will not.   I purchased these Tapo devices for this use case because a feature they list is that they do not need internet to be able to function locally.  So I haven't been able to try with internet.

I see, please share with us updates if there is any progress! To narrow down and pinpoint the cause more efficiently, we still recommend doing a comparison test under a network with internet access. More information is always better than none.
