Model: TC82 KIT
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I have an external camera with local SD storage and solar power. Everything works correctly when connected to WiFi. the motion detection works. The clips are saved to the SD and we can play back from app. But we cannot find any motion detection recordings for periods when the WiFi router was switched off. How do we solve this problem?

The FAQ says...

"Once configured, Tapo cameras can function even when disconnected from the router's network during daily use. The SD card recording function, including detection recording and 24/7 recording, will continue to work."

Hi,
Please confirm the following information for the reported phenomenon.

  1. On the Tapo app > camera's Device Settings > Alarm page, please turn on the Alarm feature and set it up.
How to configure the Alarm feature for Tapo Cameras on the Tapo app

  2. After the router's Wi-Fi is disabled, please try to move in front of the camera, and then check if the camera will alarm sound/light.

  3. What are the camera's hardware and firmware versions?

Best Regards

  @Solla-topee

thanks, we checked the camera by activating the alarm setting, then turning off the WiFi router. The motion detection alarm functioned correctly when operating offline.

The hardware can s 1.20 and firmware 1.0.4

Hi,
If the camera alarms when detecting events after the Wi-Fi is turned off, it means the camera's detection feature works after the Wi-Fi is disabled. After the tests, are there no corresponding detection video clips stored on the SD card? You can see the video clips in the Tapo app > camera's Playback > SD card page after the Wi-Fi is restored.

If no detection video clips are stored, please refer to the steps below to check the Recording settings and collect the camera log for further analysis.
  1. On Tapo app > camera's Device Settings > Storage & Recording page, please ensure the Local Recording option is enabled.
  2. Please send me the screenshots of both the Local Storage page and Recording Schedule page.
  3. You can refer to the instructions "How to get the log of Tapo Camera" to collect the camera log.

Best Regards
