Model: Tapo C520WS   Tapo C530WS
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:

have the following issue with my cameras: I mounted them in my attic. I’ve successfully been running a C500 camera there for quite some time now. It’s connected via Wi-Fi. No problems at all. Since I have Wi-Fi coverage across my entire property, this shouldn’t really be a problem.
Later, I installed two additional cameras. Both worked perfectly at first, but as soon as I moved my iPhone away from the attic, they stopped working. I thought it was a Wi-Fi signal issue. So, I tried various solutions—using repeaters and so on—but nothing worked.
In the end, I painstakingly installed a network cable throughout the house, up to the attic. I connected the first camera, a C520 WS, with the LAN cable. Everything seemed to work fine at first. However, then the same phenomenon appeared: As soon as I moved about 10 meters away from the camera, it became unreachable. As mentioned, it’s now connected to the network via LAN cable, so the connection can’t be the problem.
Why, then, is the camera’s accessibility dependent on the distance of my iPhone? I just don’t get it. I’ve already invested a lot of time and money into this. I’d really like to get my C520 WS and the second C530 WS up and running.

Hi,
The reported phenomenon seems like you can't control the Tapo C520WS remotely, but you can control it locally. Please confirm the following information about the reported case.

  1. Please describe your network diagram. For example, internet cable -- wireless router )))((( RE )))((( Tapo C520WS.

  2. What's the model number of your router and the RE? Does the RE use the same Wi-Fi name as the router? Do you have internet when connecting to the router/RE's Wi-Fi?

  3. When you are near the camera, which Wi-Fi have you connected to on your phone? When the camera displays offline in the Tapo app, which Wi-Fi/network are you using on your phone?

  4. What's the LED status on the camera? Could you please send me (@Solla-topee) the camera's MAC address via a private message?

Best Regards

  @Solla-topee

The camera also worked when I turned off my WiFi and my phone was connected to the internet via 5G, and the camera was connected to the router via LAN. But as soon as I move my phone away from the camera, it goes offline.

1. Please describe your network diagram. For example, internet cable -- wireless router )))((( RE )))((( Tapo C520WS. -> direct LAN Cable to Fritzbox now; when i used wifi the same problem, so it seems not to be a connection issue to the internet what i assumed

  2. What's the model number of your router and the RE? Does the RE use the same Wi-Fi name as the router? Do you have internet when connecting to the router/RE's Wi-Fi? Fritzbox but no WIFI so far in use

  3. When you are near the camera, which Wi-Fi have you connected to on your phone? When the camera displays offline in the Tapo app, which Wi-Fi/network are you using on your phone? we only have one wifi in our house. but like said, it works once weather i use WIFI or 5g on the phone, as long im close to the camera. but 10 m away not

. What's the LED status on the camera? Could you please send me (@Solla-topee) the camera's MAC address via a private message? i will send mac with pn this evening. LED status not sure as the camera is outside beyong the roof, im inside. but now it is offline, the led is "out".

maybe the setup went wrong? i conected to the wifi of the Camera itself and run the information

I just set up the cam as news. worked fine. even was able to go outside with my phone and take a picture of the camera. light was green. 1 minute later it was offline. so it seems it has nothing to to with my phone moving away from the camera, which would even not be consistent, but just losing connection after a short period of time. like i said my c500 is running so well. c520ws and 530ws not, even the 520ws i tested with lan...

Hi,
Have you powered the Tapo C520WS with the original power adapter that comes with the camera in the package? If not, please power the camera with the original power adapter and check if it works properly.

If the same phenomenon occurs, please refer to the instructions below to collect the camera log for further analysis.
