Model: Deco XE75 Pro
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.2.14 Build 20241223 Rel. 16551

I have the Deco XE75 Pro set up as a main router and 1 satellite.  Periodically (2-3) times a day the status light on the main unit goes red.  It usually resolves within 5 minutes by itself but is super annoying.  Looking in the app or on the web version (after switching to use my cell phone) it looks like the connection with the ISP (Aussiebroadband) is okay as the WAN IP is present.  I have tried looking at the logging to try to see what if any errors have been logged.  There is a lot of messages and not easy to find the cause of the error.  The Deco main unit is connected to a Draytek 2760 modem router set up in bridge mode (so router on draytek is disabled and all DHCP being done by Deco.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a way to see the cause of the dropouts using logging or checking any settings.  I have set the primary DNS to the Aussiebroadband primary DNS and the secondary DNS to google DNS.  I have also disable uPnp.

To be honest it sounds like your ISP is dropping your connection if the main deco is going red but it could also be an issue with the main deco as well.

You can try and switch your current main deco to a satellite deco and make one of the other decos the main. If it still drops daily I would try replacing the cable from the router to the deco

Also anytime you see it drop call your ISP and see if they are having issues.

You can learn how to switch your main deco here https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2400/

Need help with the Deco app, setup, Ethernet backhaul, network switch or rolling back firmware? Router or AP mode? https://community.tp-link.com/us/home/forum/topic/699816?page=1

  @HelpFixDecoApp

Thanks, I'll try a different cable.  I am pretty sure that the red light is not an ISP issue.  Shouldn't there be a log entry at the time the red light happens logging an error?

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

Usually, if you check the system log, it would record something like"br-wan down" when the main Deco turned red.

"Looking in the app or on the web version (after switching to use my cell phone), it looks like the connection with the ISP (Aussiebroadband) is okay as the WAN IP is present."

-Do you mean when Deco was red, there was still a valid WAN IP address on the Draytek 2760 modem router?

-How about the "IPV4 Address" on the Deco APP? Is there any IP address, or did it change to 0.0.0.0?

By the way, what is the internet connection type on the Deco, Dynamic IP or PPPoE?

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

Hi thanks for your reply.  In the system logs I have saved when this happened  there is no br-wan down message,

When the deco was red the deco app and web showed a valid wan IP address not 0.0.0.0.  I cannot see any wan IP address on the draytek as it is bridgemode.  The draytek in bridge mode is simply acting as a modem all routing deferred to the main deco.  The draytek has the internet connection type set to dynamic IP not PPPoE.  I have also done a test from the Aussiebroadband mysussie site and it show that the connection is okay when the deco is red.

I have the main deco connected to the draytek via ethernet cable so that it gets the internet connection from the draytek modem.  I had another port on the deco connected back to another port on the draytek modem.  This was to get the deco to assign a lan local IP to the draytek so that I could open the draytek admin interface.  So in this setup, the deco has local IP 192.168.68.1 and the draytek gets a local IP 192.168.68.2.  I am concerned about this causing a loopback that could be the cause of the deco going red.  I have now removed the cable going back to the draytek.  This means that I cannot open the admin interface on the draytek easily (no wireless SSID on the draytek).  I think I could directly connect my mac via ethernet to the draytek port to access the admin interface if required.  Today I had 1 instance of the deco going red but since I removed the connection back to the draytek there has been no further red light errors.  I will monitor for a few days and see if this has fixed the problem.  I usually know when the deco goes red as there is a lot of complaining to tech support (ie me!) from the rest of the family :-)
