D230S1 Detection issue
D230S1 Detection issue

I have been running this doorbell for a while now and my detections seem to be intermittant.
My son often works lates coming in at 2am and sometinmes it detects his car and himself, othertimes he can pull on the drive and get in the house with no detecttion!!
I have the sensivity high to try and pick these up, including it often picking up cars driving past somedays but not others.
It does have the sun on it some days in the mornings which seems to keep it awake therefore draining the batterry but i just bought a spare (currently getting about 2 weeks on a full charge)
Any ideas as to why somedays it picks up and somedays it doesnt, it can happen in the day or night..
Seems mad someone can pull on the drive and w3alk in th ehouse without being detected...
thanks in advance
Neil

Hi,
For the reported phenomenon, it's important to understand the wake-up mechanism of the Tapo battery-powered camera. The camera wakes up by its PIR sensor in most cases, which detects changes in infrared radiation. The camera is equipped with twin sensors; when a person or vehicle moves through the detection area, the heat source shifts from one sensor to the other. The twin sensors can detect changes in infrared radiation, thus waking up the camera to start detecting/recording events. However, when a person or vehicle moves directly towards the camera, the position of the heat source changes very little within the camera's view, making it challenging for the twin sensors to detect the necessary infrared radiation changes to wake the camera. As a result, this may lead to the events not being detected.
In your situation, aside from the possibility that the direct movement of a person or vehicle towards the camera may prevent it from waking up, there could also be an issue with the PIR sensor. You can contact your retailer or local support to see if your camera is under warranty. If so, replace the D230 and check if this improves the situation.
If the above tips do not help, you may consider the hardwired doorbell cameras, such as the Tapo D235. This model remains in an active state when powered by electric wires, thereby avoiding any limitations associated with sleep mode.

Hardwired Tapo D235 will always record - but how about the notifications, is that the same as the D230 ? And I mean, the detection.

Hi,
You can visit the Tapo D235's Specifications page on our official website to see the detection types it supports. Usually, if the Notification feature is enabled on the Tapo D235, you can receive notifications when the doorbell camera detects events.
