Model: Tapo D230S1
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.2.1

I have been running this doorbell for a while now and my detections seem to be intermittant.

My son often works lates coming in at 2am and sometinmes it detects his car and himself, othertimes he can pull on the drive and get in the house with no detecttion!!

I have the sensivity high to try and pick these up, including it often picking up cars driving past somedays but not others.

It does have the sun on it some days in the mornings which seems to keep it awake therefore draining the batterry but i just bought a spare (currently getting about 2 weeks on a full charge)

Any ideas as to why somedays it picks up and somedays it doesnt, it can happen in the day or night..

Seems mad someone can pull on the drive and w3alk in th ehouse without being detected...

thanks in advance

Neil

Note Hardware version says 1.2

Hi,
You can refer to Part 2 in the following information to troubleshoot if the camera's detection feature is not working.
What to do if the Detection feature is not working on the TP-Link Camera?

The reported detection behavior is related to several factors, including the camera's detection settings, installation position, the trajectory of the event, and so on. Please confirm the following information if the same behavior persists.

  1. Please go to the camera's Device Settings > Detection page, send us the screenshots of the Detection page and the Wake-up Sensitivity page. Please also check the sensitivity value of the enabled detection type.

  2. Please reproduce the event that can't be detected by the camera, record the video on the camera's Live View page manually, download the video to your phone, and send it to us for further analysis.
You can upload the video to your cloud server (such as Google Drive), generate a download link, and send it to me (@Solla-topee) via a private message.

Best Regards

@Solla-topee this morning i left the house which was picked up as i walked to my car. i walked back down the driveway to get a window squeegee which was not picked up, i walked back to the car to clean the windows which wasnt picked up,  i cleaned my windows and walked back down to put the squeegee back which was also not picked up.

It then picked me back up walking back to the car after putting the squeegeeaway.  it picks up most stuff going past the house on the footpath but then misses bits like this.

I have sent the screenshots via pm

Hi,
Thank you for the pictures regarding your camera settings. Would you please include the videos showing the detection behavior in the link for further analysis?

  @Solla-topee

Morning

I have uploaded a series of videos as below.

Video 1757484427782 was taken Tuesday evening 09/09 when we arrived home. Picture 1757484390433 was taken the following morning manually. The black car had entered the drive, parked up, two people got out and entered the house without detection.

I have a video previously where the camera detects the car coming onto the drive.

thanks

Hi,
The Tapo D230 is a battery-powered camera, and it is usually in a sleep state (low power consumption) when no event is detected. The camera needs to be woken up by an event and then start detecting it.

You can refer to the following article to see how the doorbell can be woken up. In your situation, some events may not be detected because they can't wake up the camera, for example, when a person moves directly towards the camera, it may not be able to wake up the camera, and therefore cannot be detected.
What is the Wake-up Sensitivity of my battery camera/doorbell?

Please check if it is possible to adjust the doorbell camera's position for better performance(as shown in the figure below).

Best Regards

  @Solla-topee Thanks for the reply.

So it is just of case of sometimes it will detect stuff and other times it wont. Thats a disappointment. I was hoping it was a fault with the camera not a standard.

With it being a doorbell its difficult to put it in a different position away from the door?

How does it pick up a car driving past n the road but not someone driving onto the driveway, getting out of the car, opening the front door and going inside?

Sensitivity settings are at 9 and some days it picks the car entering the drive and other days doesn't? Is this not a fault with the doorbell rather than the settings?

Currently the battery lasts 2 weeks with upwards of 500 AI filters in a day, but misses a whole couple of minutes of activity on the driveway. It doesnt seem right?

How would you suggest i reposition the doorbell?

thanks

Hi,
As shown in the image in this post, events occurring across the camera lens are more likely to wake the camera, while movements directly towards the camera may not wake it up effectively. This can result in situations where individuals walking towards the camera are not detected. Since the camera is oriented towards the road, vehicles and pedestrians moving across the lens can easily wake it up. However, due to your camera's detection settings, it generally does not send notifications or record video for these events.

To improve performance, it would be advisable to adjust the position or angle of the doorbell camera so that detected events occur across the lens rather than moving directly towards it.

Best regards
