Teach AI about spiders & moths

Teach AI about spiders & moths

Hi. I've had 3 false alarms in the middle of the night when spiders or moths moved around in front of a camera. The camera classed it as a person!

This is despite the videos clearly showing it is nothing like a person. I had the same issue with a cat doing its rounds in the middle of the night. However, I was able to reclassify the detection from person - to "pet" - and now the camera no longer alerts me as it recognises the cat.

With the spiders, or moths, I need to be able to tell the AI this is not a person so that it learns. But there's no option to tell it that it is an insect. If I uncheck the "person" it leaves it as a "non event", but will it learn from that? What can I tell it that it really was? I currently only have things like "motion" which is still classed as a person, "pet", which seems inappropriate, or car etc. Could you please add "insect", and start teaching the AI not to wake me up in the middle of the night over a spider?

Many thanks

Hi,
Usually, spiders or moths are detected as motion. On the camera's Playback page, to correct the event type, you can select Motion Detection.

If the camera still classifies spiders and moths as Person after you have corrected the event type several times, you can send us the following information for further analysis.

  1. The camera's model number, hardware version, and MAC address. You can send me (@Solla-topee) the camera's MAC address via a private message.

  2. The camera's detection settings on its Device Settings > Detection page. You can send us the screenshots of the Detection page and the pages of the enabled detection types.

  3. A video showing the reported false detection behavior.

You can upload the video and pictures to your cloud server (such as Google Drive), generate a download link, and send it to me (@Solla-topee) via a private message.

Best Regards

Thank you for your reply. For some reason the motion detection still has a person icon imply it is really for detecting people. If the cameras genuinely use AI and can really learn I think they need to be taught about insects, rain, snow and fog. All of these constantly trigger alarms when set to detect motion.

I activated motion detection and told it not to notify me when motion is detected. This is how I managed to stop all the false alarms triggered by a neighbourhood cat. However, for the last 2 nights we have had rain most of the night and the camera has recorded about a hundred "motion detected" events every few minutes.

We need to be able to tell the camera that this is just rain and can be ignored?

Hi,
The basic camera's motion detection mechanism is based on image changes between different frames. The frame is one of the many still images that compose the complete moving picture. If there is a difference between the frames, the camera will recognize it as a motion detected. When it rains, the raindrops will cause a significant change in the image, therefore, this kind of detection cannot be avoided. However, you can refer to the following instructions to reduce motion detections from rain, snow, insects, etc.
How to reduce motion detections from rain, snow, or insects, etc

If the camera's motion detection and person detection features are enabled, it's normal for the camera to detect a cat or an insect as motion. However, if they are detected as a person, we suggest referring to this post for further analysis.
