Spotlight on, while recognizing a person
Hello,
A simple use case:
- A person is detected during the night
- Camera is in Infrared mode or in color mode, does not matter
- I want to have a spotlight ON, for some tens of seconds
When I se the Alarm on with lightinging only, the leds keep blinking for a while. Is this use case already supported? Sounds soooooo simple, it should be. I can see very little new features coming on SW for Tapo cameras. HW is evolving, but not SW. Some companies see their future with SW some with HW, Tapo seems to be the latter one.

Hi,
Your use case can be achieved with the following settings.
1. On the camera's Device Settings > Detection page, enable Person Detection only.
2. On the camera's Live View page, select Auto mode.
3. On the camera's Device Settings > Video & Display >Night Mode Settings page, select Smart Mode.
Then the camera will turn on the spotlight at night when it detects a person, and the spotlight will stay on for some time.
If you have additional requirements, please provide detailed descriptions so we can assist you more effectively.
Best Regards

Thank's for the reply,
Yes, that works. But.... only if the camera is in Infrared, not in color mode to start with.
You guys block my camera to go to Infrared mode, because there are some lights in my garden, which are enough for the camera not to go to the Infrared mode, but not enough for human being to see anything. And cameras in "Starlight" have ghost images.
You cannot change the laws of nature and try to force the cameras being in "Starlight" mode if there is not enough light. Moving images are terrible ghosts. It simply does not provide good enough quality, what the Infrared could bring. What is the reason, you simply cannot the users select, when to rely on "Starligh" and when to Infrared? You make excellent HW, but you are lacking behind SW. Just accept it and do what the users want to have.

Hi,
1. Typically, on the camera's Live View page, you can select Auto, Day, and Night mode manually. You can manually select Night mode at night. With Person Detection enabled and Smart Mode selected, the camera will turn on the spotlight at night when it detects a person.
2. If you'd like the camera to automatically switch from Day mode to Night mode in your specific usage environment, please provide the following information for further analysis.
a. Please record a video (approximately 20 seconds) in the camera's Live View when you think it should switch to Night mode. Then, please upload the video to your cloud server (such as Google Drive), generate a download link, and send it to me (@Solla-topee) via a private message.
b. Please send me the camera's MAC address via a private message.
3. Please note that the startlight sensor always works on the camera. The following article may help you learn more about the starlight night vision of the camera.

I can share you videos. But you will not get so much out of those. You guys simply do not get it. Your customers in multiple threads here require simple features for them to improve the quality of the video
1. Threshold for the luminance, when the camera goes to nightmode and back
2. Going to nightmode when the sun sets
No brainer features, right? Stop the jargon about voting, etc.
It is impossible for you to make a SW without config options so that all the possible scenarios with garden lights, shadows, reflections etc would be fullfilled. Why this is so difficult for you? You guys are good in HW and if you believe your customers will all the time purchase new camera HW from you which is having the night mode a little bit better, but still without configurations.... you are so wrong with your business model.

Hi,
I fully understand the scenario you face while monitoring your garden at night, and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. Currently, when the Tapo C520WS is set to Auto mode, it will automatically switch between Day and Night modes based on ambient lighting conditions, and this feature can meet the needs of most users.
Regarding your feedback on existing feature requests, such as adjusting the light threshold for Day/Night mode switching and scheduling for Day/Night mode, I'll continue to log and forward the feedback to the product team. These requests will serve as important reference directions for subsequent firmware optimization.
We are always committed to improving the product experience and have been adding new features through firmware upgrades. We believe that with firmware updates, our camera's features will be further improved to better meet the needs of different scenarios.
Best Regards

Is there a sensor in C520 I can put e.g a scotch tape in front of it? If so, where this sensor is located?
