Automated Home/Away Mode to Mute Notifications - Tapo C460 (Smart Plug Trigger)
Hello all,
I'm writing to request what I believe is a standard and essential feature for a modern smart camera system: the ability to automatically switch between "Home" and "Away" modes based on a simple, external trigger like a Tapo Smart Plug status.
My Setup:
I have four Tapo C460 cameras and a Tapo Smart Plug.
My Goal:
I want to use a Tapo Smart Plug (or another automation trigger, e.g., geofencing/location if available) as a proxy for whether I am home or away.
When "Home" (Smart Plug ON):
Action: The cameras must continue to record on Person Detection.
Notification: The cameras must mute ALL notifications.
When "Away" (Smart Plug OFF):
Action: The cameras must continue to record on Person Detection.
Notification: The cameras must send ALL notifications.
The Current Problem:
Currently, when I arrive home, I'm constantly bombarded with person detection notifications until I manually open the Tapo app and switch the mode to "Home." This defeats the purpose of a smart home system. It's frustrating to have to fumble with my phone just to stop the notifications every time I walk through the door.
This kind of automated mode switching, especially one that allows separate control over recording (ON) and notifications (OFF), is a core feature offered by competitors like Google Nest, Arlo, and many others.
My Questions:
Is there a current way to set up an Automation/Smart Action where the action is to switch the camera Detection Mode (Home/Away) or specifically to enable/disable notifications, triggered by a Smart Plug's status?
If not, when will this feature be released?
This capability is crucial for reducing notification fatigue while maintaining essential security recording, and its absence is a major drawback for an otherwise excellent camera system. Please consider prioritizing the development of this automation action.
Thank you.
