Solution Solution: sudden malfunction of Tapo camera/doorbell (liveview, detection, etc) linked to Tapo H200
This Article Applies To
- Tapo H200 (EU/US/JP) 1.0 - Firmware 1.5.2 Build 20250603 rel.59798 or 1.6.0 Build 20250915 rel.33520
- Tapo cameras or doorbells that are linked with the Tapo H200:
- Sub-devices of the Tapo H200
- Stored videos on the Tapo H200
Description
If you have a Tapo camera or doorbell that is a sub-device of the Tapo H200, or the video storage path is set to a Tapo H200, and the H200 is in the above firmware versions, you might notice the camera or doorbell suddenly stop functioning correctly, such as:
1. The camera live view fails to load, displaying the message "Tap to Refresh."
2. The camera's LED shows it is online (e.g., solid green), but the detection and recording features stop working, and there are no detection notifications.
Solution
Fixed in Tapo H200's latest firmware 1.6.1 Build 20251230 rel.64168.
Note: New firmware releases are typically done in stages and are not sent to all devices at once. If your device has not yet received this version of firmware, please be patient as the firmware release will gradually scale up to 100%.

@Wayne-TP the new beta firmware doesn't fix the issue at all.
After following your instructions I've had firmware 1.6.0 Build 20251014 rel. 59745 installed on my H200.
It still won't permit live view on my C420. "Tap to refresh". Other functions of the camera, including playback of old videos and monitoring the battery level, work. I have no idea if it's recording anything new.
The C420 hardware is version 1.0, firmware 1.4.1 Build 20250912 rel 65176.
PS: Why on earth the C420 doesn't have a reboot option, like most of your other cameras, is beyond me.

What's the signal strength of your camera? *Device Settings > Device Info, find Signal Strength and then click its WiFi icon to show the RSSI rate.

@Wayne-TP I originally had this problem but the beta firmware fixed it for me. But now without any updates I'm aware of or changes or anything it has suddenly run into the exact same problem. I can't view any of the 4 cameras, they all just say tap to fresh and none of them are detecting movement or sending notifications. My H200 firmware is 1.6.0 Build 20251014 rel.59745

Make sure your Tapo app is updated. You may try to delete and reinstall the app. Try to use another phone or tablet. And do not enable VPN while using the Tapo app.
What's the firmware version of the camera?

@Wayne-TP Hi Wayne.
The Tapo app is updated, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app to no difference. It's also happening on my partner's phone and we're not using the VPN. The cameras are on firmware version 1.4.1
