Model: Tapo H500
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I'm planning to replace the current hard drive installed on my H500. Is there a way to replace the hard drive without loosing the data?

I understand there's a USB backup option, but is there a restore option somewhere in the settings?

If it is not possible form migrating the data, will the facial recognition, and all other customized settings lost if I replaced the hard drive?

Most settings, like facial recognition, are stored in the hub, so replacing the hard drive won't have much impact on your existing settings.

Please note that you can't read or export videos directly from the hard drive on a PC.  If your current hard drive contains important video recordings, back them up to another storage device first via the hub's USB backup feature. Tapo H500 - Backup Your Clips with USB Backup and Network Access (Sharing)

@Naolador From all of my time working with the H500, it doesn't support much in the way of advanced solutions (I can't even figure out how to get logs).

Since replacing the HDD means removing the old ont, plugging in the new one, and immediately having to format the new HDD< I'd say that there's no way to accomplish this. You might be able to back up the files on the disk, but you can't put them on the new HDD. Maybe you could install, format, remove, copy to new disk, re-insert into H500, and it would work? But I'm going to suggest that it's not likely and for the most part, surveillance video is unhelpful to store in perpetuity, that's why we use loop recording.

Thanks! So the best practice is to backup the footage then replace the disk straightaway.

I’ve made slight updates to the previous response. Please refer to the provided guidelines above to back up your video recordings.
