It would be nice if Tapo smart automations had the abilty to check if one or more phones were home before running. 
 

I just checked and all my evening lights are on. Whilst it is good to show that someone maybe home, it also turned my TV on and the like. 
 

would be nice for an automation to use location as a condition

The Tapo app supports the Geofencing feature, and you can check whether it helps in your situation.

  @Solla-topee I use that for my home and away automations. But for timed automations, there is no way to use geolocation to check if a device is home. In ther geolocation there is only arrives or leave a location, there is no, is home/not home

I solved this problem by using an S112 as a switch to indicate presence/absence. Geofencing sets this switch. The T110's automation first checks if the status is "absence" and then sends me a message about the open door.

that might do the trick as a temp solution. geolocation needs more options
