Model: Tapo C310
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.16

I’m using 20+ Tapo cameras across different models with Home Assistant. Person detection works well on newer hardware versions of the C310, but my six C310 v1.0 units don’t expose the person detection sensor. This prevents me from fully implementing my automation setup.

I’ve had excellent support experiences with TP-Link Deco before, and I’m hopeful the Tapo team can consider a firmware update to expose person detection for v1.0 cameras. This would make automation consistent across all devices.

If other users face the same limitation, please add your support here so TP-Link can see the demand.

  @Williever

Hi,
If the person detection feature is enabled on the Tapo C310 V1,  can you receive person-detected notifications on your phone and Tapo app when the camera detects a person?
If so, it means the camera's person detection feature is working.
If not, please refer to the following instructions to troubleshoot: What to do if the Detection feature is not working on the TP-Link Camera?

On the Tapo app > Me > Third-Party Services > Third-Party Compatibility page, please enable it and check whether your Tapo Camera can work properly with Home Assistant. Please note that TP-Link has not officially advertised support for Home Assistant, so enabling this feature does not guarantee seamless integration.

Best Regards

Thank you for your response. To clarify, my request is not about whether person detection works in the Tapo app — I do receive person-detected notifications there.

The issue is that on the Tapo C310 hardware version 1.0, the person detection feature is not exposed via the API and therefore does not appear as a binary sensor in Home Assistant through the HACS Tapo integration (https://github.com/JurajNyiri/HomeAssistant-Tapo-Control). On my later hardware versions of the C310, person detection is exposed and works properly in Home Assistant.

I currently manage over 20 cameras, and only my six C310 v1.0 units are missing this person detection sensor. I am requesting that TP-Link consider a firmware update to expose the person detection feature for v1.0 cameras, so that automation in Home Assistant can be consistent across all devices.
