I've been experimenting with virtual switches in the SmartThings app and I have to say it's a real game changer when integrating certain products with other platforms. I have a virtual switch for every member of my family and I can use the SmartThings app on their phones to track their location and use routines to turn their corresponding virtual switches on/off based on their presence in the home. With that I can run automations using presence preconditions, like automatically disabling the alarm in the morning if anyone is home so the alarm doesn't go off when someone opens a window or a door.

It's even more useful when these switches can be used as triggers for automations in Alexa, as if they were a contact sensor. With that I can have all my automation logic in the Tapo app and just turn on a virtual switch that Alexa will listen to and run an automation to control a third party smart device that otherwise we wouldn't be able to control from the Tapo app.
