Hi TP-Link Team 👋

I’m using a Tapo C220 to monitor my guinea pigs, and overall I’m very happy with the camera’s quality and reliability.

However, I noticed that AI detection currently only supports dogs and cats, which is understandable, but small pets like guinea pigs are not detected at all.

  • This would be an amazing feature, especially for:
  • Pet owners who monitor their animals while at work or during the night
  • Detecting unusual or abnormal behavior (panic, reduced activity, seizures, or escape attempts), especially since prey animals like guinea pigs often hide symptoms when humans are present
  • Reducing false motion alerts by properly classifying small animals

Guinea pigs are very common pets in Europe and often live indoors. Their movement patterns are clearly different from humans, cats, or dogs, and AI-based recognition would be extremely helpful for animal welfare.

Even a generic “Small Pet / Rodent” detection category would already be a huge improvement.

I know this is a niche use case, but currently no AI camera on the market properly supports guinea pigs, and this could be a great opportunity for Tapo to stand out 🐹💚

If such a feature were introduced, I would seriously consider replacing my older (almost 5-year-old) D-Link cameras used for my guinea pigs with Tapo cameras.

Thanks for considering this feature, and keep up the great work!

Greetings, Rebecca

P.S.: If the camera can tell a cat from a dog, surely it can learn what a very fluffy potato looks like 🥔🐹
