Model: Tapo C840
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.4.2

Please help me from pulling my hair out.

We have been a Tapo camera household for 3 years now. Familiar with all the usual settings, frame rate, power line frequency etc. We have 3 internal cameras and 3 external cameras.

Added the baby monitor, set it up as normal. 1x view, no issues. 2.5x view, horrendous banding that moves slowly top to bottom.

Double checked power frequency and frame rates. All good. Moved another internal camera (C110) into babies room - picture absolutely fine.

It’s almost as if the frame rate for the 1x view has been set independently from the 2.5x view.

Factory reset, still the same. Latest firmware - 1.4.2.

ONLY does this when the (LED) lights in the room are on.

Anyone?

Hi  @Leek-Sausage,

Welcome to the community!

This type of "shutter" effect is common when the refresh rate (high-speed flickering) of the room's LED light bulb(s) is operating at a frequency that clashes with the frame rate of the camera. Since it only occurs when the room's LED lights are on, this is the likely culprit.

A couple of things worth trying:

  • Adjust the frame rate on the camera to a higher or lower setting to see if the banding/shutter effect persists.

  • For a more permanent workaround, and if you would prefer to leave the camera's frame rate as-is, you can try replacing the room's LEDs (if they are easily replaceable) with LED bulbs that incorporate "anti-flicker", or "flicker-free" technology.
