Tapo C520WS ONFIV

Hi,
Our Tapo cameras support ONVIF Profile S, which covers only basic functions such as video/audio streaming, event handling, and PTZ control.
Regarding your feature requests:
1) Do you want to enable and disable the camera's tracking feature on Frigate via ONVIF? Usually, you can enable or disable the tracking feature in the Tapo app, and the camera's live feed in Frigate will update accordingly when the camera detects and tracks events.
2) What specific video parameters would you like to configure via ONVIF on a third-party app?
3) Could you please describe the specific use cases and reasons for which you wish to control tracking features or adjust video parameters within a third-party app?
Best Regards

Hello @Solla-topee,
thx for your Reply!
1)
I'd like to use the auto-tracking feature built into Frigate, but that would require "RelativePanTiltTranslationSpace" and "TranslationSpaceFov," which the C520WS doesn't provide.
Sure, I could enable the feature in the app, but the problem is that I wouldn’t be able to respond specifically to certain events; instead, I’d have to “rely” on the rather limited features of the Tapo app.
2)
This isn't really about ONVIF; it's more about optimizing the stream and "tuning" the image settings to my specific needs. Specifically, the bitrate (CBR or VBR), compression (H.264 or H.265), video fine-tuning (BLC mode), and the ability to manually adjust brightness, contrast, gamma, and saturation.
This is possible with IMOU/Dahua using their proprietary configuration tool, which offers a correspondingly higher level of convenience.
3)
Well, the situation is that I use Frigate, my cameras run exclusively locally, and I store the recordings on my server accordingly.
The Tapo app is nice, but it’s really more for the “average” user. I’m taking it a step further and using a high-quality consumer camera like the C520WS to give myself more options for meeting my specific property surveillance needs.
I really hope that Tapo will offer more options for using the cameras more freely in the future, even though the business is geared toward your cloud service. My alternative would be to switch to other cameras that offer exactly these features, which would actually be a shame, since the Tapo cameras really do a great job.
Best Regards

Hi,
Thank you for your explanation.
1. Regarding the feedback about the tracking feature, it's recommended to vote and leave your detailed use case on the thread "Implement RelativePanTiltTranslationSpace on Tapo PTZ cameras based on ONVIF specification." I'll log it and forward it to the relevant team for evaluation.
2. Regarding the feedback to support more image settings on the camera to optimize the stream, while we don't have specific details on whether the requested options can be added to the product or when they might be, I'll also log the feature requests and forward them to the relevant team for evaluation.
Best Regards

Thanks a lot, I've voted on the ticket you mentioned.
Just a quick note: the ticket in question is for hardware version V1. I'm using V2.
But if that "doesn't matter," then it works for me.
I'm really hoping for some changes.
Thanks for at least listening to what your community has to say :)
Best Regards

Hi,
All Tapo Pan & Tilt cameras that support the ONVIF protocol can vote in this thread; it applies to all models and hardware versions, not just specific ones.
Best Regards!
