Re: No recording on my Tapo camera TC47 with two 128gb sd cards
I have tried two Sd cards with specs according to your instructions based on the list with brands, series, capacity and description but all failed to format. The Sd cards are genuine and I bought it online from store with supplier 's warranty. The first card is SanDisk, 128gb High Endurance, V30, SDXC1. Since unable to format, I assume that it is unusable and fake and complained to Shopee and seller. I asked for refund because there is supplier warranty. After taking many videos and photos to prove that it was unable to use, they finally accepted to return it and now in the process to refund. Then I bought another sd card, the second one is KIngston, canvas select plus, 128gb, V10, A1, SDXC1 recently. However this card also failed to use and unable to format. I just do not know how to get a proper card. For your information, after failing to use these two new cards, I took one sd card that bought in 2023, 3 year ago which is a spare card for my car dashcam. This cheap card, SanDIsk, UHS-1 card 32 gb with just RM16.00 and bought 3 year ago,and it has not used before. I inserted this card into the camera and successfully formatted and can be used for recording. I am wondering why. However this 32 gb card is low in capacity and I really hope to replace it with 128 gb card but unable to do so. Could you please help.

Since the poster has not provided confirmation or follow-up, we recommend that anyone encountering similar issues try the following suggestions to resolve the problem or optimize performance:
1. Make sure both the camera and Tapo app firmware are up-to-date.
2. Power off the camera, reinsert the SD card several times, then power on the camera and try again to format the SD card.
3. If the SD card was previously encrypted in another Tapo camera, insert it back into that camera and disable encryption: Tapo app > Camera's Device Settings > Storage & Recording > Local Storage > Encrypt microSD Card > Decrypt.
4. Insert the SD card into another camera or a computer with an SD card reader. Check if the SD card can be formatted/recognized by the computer/another camera.
5. Use third-party software such as H2testW to verify the SD card integrity:How to Spot and Test a Fake Micro SD Card
6. Ensure there is no physical damage (e.g., bends, scratches) on your SD card.
For more details, refer to this FAQ: What should I do if the SD card cannot be formatted/recognized?

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed description of your experience, and welcome to the community.
First, we would like to clarify an important point: since the 32 GB microSD card can be detected, formatted, and used normally on your TC47, this indicates that the camera itself is functioning properly.
Regarding the two 128 GB microSD cards that could not be formatted, we kindly suggest the following:
Ensure there is no physical damage (e.g., bends, scratches) on your SD card.
5 Use third-party software such as H2testW to verify the SD card integrity:How to Spot and Test a Fake Micro SD Card
For more details, refer to this FAQ: What should I do if the SD card cannot be formatted/recognized?
If the problem persists, please provide the SD card test result to us.

Thank you for providing the methods to test the sd cards.
With all these methods, the sd card is genuine and not defective.
I also would like to clarify an important point. This card can be used in another camera, ICSEE brand model A32 without any problem. This also prove that the card is genuine and not defective.
You have not explained why your TC47 camera can detect a cheap and fake sd card but rejected the expensive and genuine card.
Please review your TC47 camera software and I strongly believe that your software needs improvement.
I am willing to send this card by courier service to you to prove that it is a genuine card.

Hi,
Thank you for your detailed explanation and for your cooperation.
To further investigate this issue, could you please help us with the following if possible:
1.If you have performed any SD card tests (such as capacity or speed tests), please share the screenshots for our reference.
2.Enable diagnostic mode on the TC47 and reproduce the issue: How to get the log of Tapo Camera
3. Reformat the SD card using the app (not via other devices): How to install and format SD card for Tapo camera
4. Take screenshots of any error messages shown in the app and send them to us.
At this stage, there is no need to send the SD card by courier. Once we receive the above information, we will check it for further analysis.
Best Regards.

Hi TP-Link Community Team and all users:
(1) I am not the only user and will not be the last one to bring this matter up. Please check the previous forum messages, there is another user brought the same matter and your reply is the same with all the standard procedures for "damage control". . It seems to me that there is no intention in TP-link to investigate and improve.
(2) Currently I am using the fake sd card to operate and recording and I have continued to use it without problem. But I am wondering why the genuine sd cards, not one but two are unable to use.
(3) In the last two messages, I have asked for an explanation why the fake sd card can be used but not the genuine cards, until today there is no answer.
(4) I offered to deliver the genuine card to you by courier service to investigate but you decline. You asked for screen shots and although I can provide but I believe that at the end there are still many standard procedures to comply here and there, and there will be no solutions. I am a layman and I expect you all to perform all the tests as professionals and have specialized knowledge in this particular subject. I have no choice but to dispose the sd cards.
(5)I consider whatever issue/ matter arisen as an opportunity to investigate and improve, especially for a big company. My intention is sincere. However with all the clear and detailed descriptions, there are no solutions and answers but only with the same standard procedures which I have seen in other user's forum messages.
(6) Finally, I consider this issue close and have no intention to pursue further and will not reply and seek for help in the future.
Thank you.

Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to explain your situation in such detail. We fully understand your frustration and sense of helplessness—especially after you’ve already invested a significant amount of time and effort in testing and communicating. We recognize that this experience can be genuinely disappointing.
Regarding the SD card issue, we understand that your core question is why some cards work on other devices, or even on some units, but not on this particular device. It’s important to note that SD card compatibility is not determined solely by authenticity or price. Differences in main control chips, file system implementations, and firmware compatibility across products can lead to compatibility issues on specific models. Even within the same model, individual hardware variations can occasionally occur.
We would also like to clarify that the TP‑Link Community is a global public discussion platform, primarily intended for experience sharing and basic troubleshooting guidance. It is not equipped to receive physical devices, perform hardware inspections, or handle region‑specific cases. Situations requiring hands‑on testing or deeper technical analysis must be followed up by the local TP‑Link technical support team.
In your case, you may consider exchanging the camera through the retailer to see whether a replacement unit improves the situation. We understand that the troubleshooting process can feel exhausting, but these steps are often necessary to properly isolate the root cause—it is certainly not a lack of willingness on our part to assist you.
That said, if you decide not to continue pursuing this issue, we fully understand and respect your decision.
Best Regards,
