Model: Tapo D235
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Version 1.2.2 Build 260210 Rel.27165n

My Tapo D235 battery doorbell has been working brilliantly since installation 2 months ago - until about 2–3 weeks ago when night-time detection stopped entirely.

During the day it picks up motion and person detection without issue, but after dark it records absolutely nothing. No motion events, no person alerts, nothing.

Importantly, night vision itself appears fine - the live view at night looks clear and the IR is obviously working. So this seems to be a detection/recording issue specifically, not a hardware failure.

What I've already tried:

- Firmware is up to date (Version 1.2.2 Build 260210 Rel.27165n)

- Restarted the doorbell

- Switched between recording to the hub and directly to SD card

- Pushed motion sensitivity up to the maximum (10)

- Verified the recording schedule is set to 24 hours (not time-restricted)

None of the above has made any difference.

Given that the live view at night is perfectly clear but nothing is being detected or recorded, it feels like something in the detection logic has broken - possibly tied to the current firmware. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a known fix, or am I heading toward a warranty claim?

Any help appreciated.

Any ideas at all please?

Does anyone know how to contact Tapo tech support?

  @rkaitheri

Did you try to run the detection ranget? How to test the detection range of Tapo battery camera

Check if the doorbell's detection and recording works normally when you're watching the live view in the Tapo app.

And just to clarify, is your doorbell run by battery, or is it hard-wired?
