Things You May Want To Know

1. Is Smart Action 2.0 available for Kasa devices?

Yes! In addition to the skills supported in the Kasa App itself, syncing your Kasa device to the Tapo App will give you the ability to turn on additional skill permissions for your Kasa device!

2. When will the Smart Action 2.0 be officially released?

Smart Action 2.0 will probably be available to everyone between Q1 to Q2 of 2024, so stay tuned! Keep posted by subscribing to this article, or pay attention to the release note of the new App version.

3. Why can't I manage my automation or shortcut rules suddenly?

Smart Action 2.0 feature is available in the testing version 3.2.204(Android) and 3.2.206 (iOS) only. The smart action rules created or saved through the testing version cannot be edited on other App versions. But they're still visible and take effect.

If you have enabled the App auto-update, the new version is likely to overwrite the testing version.

Smart Action 2.0 trial test has ended now. Stay tuned to the official release!

The Tapo app on my iphone says "Smart Actions 2.0 Beta Survey.  Beta test will end soon. Please fill in our survey.."

Except, clicking on the message does NOTHING.

Is there a link to the survey?

PM sent Wayne, thank you

@Wayne-TP I am very looking forward to this feature Custom automation notifications when running an automation, but I do have a question. Is there any chance that you can include some sort of phone call/alarm style notification? Basically a notification that keeps ringing and vibrating until you actively dismiss it. I am using Tapo products to set up my home security system and something that I am missing within the tapo app is the ability to get a phone call when my alarm triggers so I don't miss it.

Imagine you are away on holidays and someone breaks into your house while you are not there. The door sensors and cameras will register the events and send the notifications, but if you are sleeping you will most likely miss them until you wake up the next morning and the burglars are long gone and the damage is done. I would like to have an option for triggering an alarm or phone call style notification in my phone that keeps ringing and vibrating until I dismiss it, so it increases the chances of waking me up so I can call the police. In my current setup I am achieving this by making the Tapo automation turn on a smart plug when an intruder is detected, and then using IFTTT to trigger a bot call to my Telegram account every time that smart plug is switched on. As you can see, there are too many systems involved to consider this solution reliable enough for a burglar alarm, the Telegram bot relies on a third party API that can be down at any particular time (it was indeed down for the whole Christmas holidays) as it belongs to a particular that is offering the API for free. This kind of notification would be very helpful for making your platform a reliable all-in-one security system, and I think it would be very easy to implement. Of course, being able to customize the ringtone and toggle vibration on/off would be a must for me, as well as configure the volume of the alarm even if the phone is set to silence mode. There are plenty of simple alarm apps in the store that have this functionality, so I really doubt this is something very difficult to do.

If I'm not mistaken, your smart doorbell can be configured to call your device instead of just sending a push notification, so I don't think it would be much of a problem to extend that fucntionality to be triggered by an automation.

Anyway, I hope this helps. I would love to see this feature implemented!

Thank you

HI @jm_carmona

Totally agree that more Tapo devices should be able to fire IFTTT events, having to turn a switch on and off to be able to trigger an action is madness! Button pressed and Sensor triggered as a minimum.

Just wanted to chip in that I have been using Woopla for making calls from IFTTT. It is paid for, but super cheap, and I have set up a button (in this case an AWS one, as the Tapo one won't trigger IFTTT) for my Grandad to call the mobiles of all his children from a single button press. This has worked every time we tested it and in the few cases he has needed assistance as well.

As you may have seen in my previous post; adding webhooks to the possible actions from an Automation or Shortcut in the app seems to me like the most sensible way to enable the Tapo ecosystem to interact with any other ecosystem, without the need for middleware like IFTTT (which gets expensive once you go over 20 applets). I've been pushing for this since buying a number of buttons and finding I can't do half of the things I wanted to with them. Once I have webhooks I will buy a bunch more!

Hopefully we will see even more new features soon.

On a similar topic, @Wayne-TP, the notifications are quite slow to the phone. I was hoping to have it as a vibrate alert that the doorbell was rung for when I can't hear the hub. The delay is such that either I have got to the door and back before it triggers, or I miss the door and the person has gone. Not sure if there is any way you can get the latency down?

Steve

Dear @Wayne-TP

I was very happy with the actions.

Can i get them back please???

I had many programmed...

Please answer me!!!

Kind regards,

Peter

Hi,

I ended up into the same situation! My Tapo Android app (build 3.2.204), which is the beta version for the Smart Action 2.0, was automatically updated to the build 3.2.515 released couple of days ago. However, it seems, that this version is an update for the stable version (build 3.1.605) because it contains only minor fixes and lacks the whole Smart Action 2.0. That version should not have been numbered to 3.2.xxx but 3.1.xxx, because eventually all the beta testers will face the same problem when their apps get updated via Play Store, won't they?

I was forced to uninstall the 3.2.515 build and reinstall the 3.2.204 build from the APKMirror. Now my actions work again.

I would appreciate it if there was some official information about the further plan for the Smartactions. I have also switched back to the previous version for the time being and would like to know if and when the Smartactions will return.

I'm facing the same problem!

I can't edit or even see all the automations that I've created after the App update to version 3.2.515.

It seems that is not a beta version so the beta functionalities don't work.

Please fix this.
