Introduction

What are ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) and RTSP (Real-Time Streaming Protocol)?

ONVIF is an open standard organization that promotes interoperability among network video devices. It aims to facilitate seamless communication and compatibility between devices from different manufacturers, offering users more flexible and scalable video surveillance solutions.

Devices that support the ONVIF standard can be discovered over the network and can communicate with ONVIF-compliant video management software, network video recorders (NVRs), and other devices.

RTSP is a network protocol designed for controlling the delivery of real-time media data, such as audio and video, over IP networks. It is commonly used for streaming live video and audio from an IP camera to a client device, such as a computer, smartphone, etc.

Most of the Tapo cameras support the ONVIF protocol (Profile S) as well as the RTSP protocol, which means that you can stream the camera on a PC/NVR/NAS device via the RTSP/ONVIF protocol. 
However, it's important to note that currently, the battery-powered Tapo cameras and Kasa cameras do not support the ONVIF & RTSP protocols.

Note: If you want to view the camera from a remote network, it’s required to open port 556 or 2020 on the router/modem with a public IP address for the camera.
