Model: HS210
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

The switch works great without the ground wire.

But, what do we do with the green wire coming out of the switch? Nothing is specified in the instructions. Can we just cap it with one of the wire nuts? Use electrical tape to cover the end?

Ground wire is not necessary to make the smart switch function. You can cap it if there is no ground wire in your circuit.

However, for safety concerns, it is recommended to install the switch in a location that has a ground wire available.

@SylvieM  I capped the green wire coming out of the switch. The switch is installed in a metal box with the ground wire tied in the back. I read that the switch would be grounded through the metal screws attaching it to the metal box?

If I understand it correctly, the only thing grounded now is the metal box, not the switch.

You can consult a professional electrician to assess the feasibility and safety of the current installation method.
