Model: Tapo C220
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.3.1

Hello.

I have two Tapo C220 cameras and both have been working just fine. However last night one of the cameras decided to auto update the firmware to the latest 1.3.1 and now the camera acts like it's running 1-2 fps at best. This is the live video and anything recorded. The whole thing has turned into an unusable slideshow. The other C220 is still on firmware 1.2.5 and it still running fine as normal (I switched off auto update for this one now)

I tried swopping the camera positions of the two C220s and that didn't help. The one on 1.3.1 is a slideshow no matter where it's positioned. I checked the framerate and both are set to the usual 25fps. It must be something from the update that has caused this so how can I revert back to the previous 1.2.5? Any help appreciated.

I have tried a factory reset to no avail. I did take the sd card out and view clips on my pc and it's recording them fine as normal. It's just viewing them through the app or using liveview where the problem occurs. I really need to downgrade this firmware. I have tried searching in the download centre but all i find there is firmware notes not the actual firmware themselves.

Where can I download firmware 1.2.5 please? The camera is currently useless until I can downgrade.

Hi,
1. There is no link to download the camera's firmware, and we do not have firmware downgrade instructions.

2. Please confirm the following information for the reported issue and we will help to solve it based on the new firmware.
  1) What's the version of your Tapo app? Please update it to the latest one and check if it helps.
  2) Do you have the same issue when trying to watch the camera on a different phone?
  3) Could you please send us a video showing the reported issue?

Best Regards

Hi,
1. On the Tapo app > Me > About page, you can see the Tapo app version.
2. You can upload the video to your cloud server(such as Google Drive), generate a link to download it and send me(@Solla-topee) the link via a private message.
Best Regards

Hi, Thanks for helping. I will give as much info as I can think of.

1, Tapo app version is 3.9.522

2, I have sent the link. As you can see the framerate is very low. As I mentioned this occurs when viewing in liveview or when watching any playback. However, if I download a clip to my phone (and view it in my gallery or via vlc player), or take the sd card out and view on my pc, the framerate is normal and very smooth. One thing to note is the timestamp. Usually if it's a connection issue the seconds freeze and skip, but here the seconds count smoothly, its just the video that's skipping. The issue is the same both at 360p and 1440p.

3, The two phones I tried are a Samsung S23 FE and an older Huawei P20 Pro. The issue is the same on both.

4, As mentioned I have two C220 camera's. The one with the issue is 1 year old (nearly to the day) and the other new. The new camera works fine as normal and is still on the previous firmware. The problem occured as soon as the 1 year old camera updated to the latest firmware overnight. I also have an old C200, which is also working as normal, though of course there was no update on that one recently.

5, I checked all setting on both C220s to be sure the update didn't change anything but I use the exact same setting for both.

6, As mentioned I tried a factory reset. And also removed it from the app and let it re pair etc. Neither helped.

I hope this helps somewhat. Thanks again

Regards

@supershamrock the same thing has happened to me. So annoyed. The video is jerky after the update. I think that one of the so-called improvements was to make the video smooth. I had no issues before the update but now it's nothing like smooth.

@AnnieB That does indeed solve it. Thanks! Didn't think to change that.
