I recently bought a TAPO C246D for outdoor use. The switching adapter Model DSA-10PF06-05 FK 050200 (Output : +5.0V = 2.0 A, 10.0W) comes with 4.0 metre USB C cable.

How can I extend this usb cable to 10 metres as my wall socket is inside the house and i need to install it at outdoor.

I have purchased a 12 metres usb-c cable, but somehow was informed by the cable seller that the DC power adapter cannot support  the cable length.

Hi @MrJus

The main problem is that 12 meters is way too far for a regular USB-C cable (even an active one) to reliably deliver power. Data might make it to about 15 meters with an extender, but the 2 amps your camera needs won't hold up over that distance.

The fix is to ditch USB for power and use Power over Ethernet (PoE) instead. The camera still uses Wi-Fi for data, but we'll run power down a separate Ethernet cable, which is designed for long runs like this (up to 100 meters no problem).

Here's what you'll need for a 12-meter setup:

Ethernet cable (Cat5e or Cat6): Your 12-meter run—handles power without issues.

PoE injector: Plugs into the wall and adds power to the Ethernet cable.

PoE splitter: At the camera end, this pulls the power off the cable and outputs it as 5V through a USB-C port. (Make sure it’s 5V USB-C—most splitters are 12V or barrel plugs, which won’t work.)

Short USB-C cable: Use the original 4m one (or a shorter replacement) to connect from the splitter to the camera.

This keeps data on Wi-Fi and power stable over the full 12 meters.

Hope this helps.
