Brand new D210 Doorbell has stopped connecting to the Wifi AFTER a firmware upgrade

Model: Tapo D210
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Received my brand new D210 and started following the instructions to install it.

Installation Steps

  1. Turned on Doorbell by pressing the reset button
  2. Connected my mobile phone Wifi onto the Doorbell network
  3. Add device on the Tapo App
  4. Tapo App found the doorbell and added it
  5. Tapo App asked for Wifi network. I selected my 2.4GHz network and entered the password
  6. Doorbell announces 'Connecting to Wifi' and Wifi connected after a few minutes
  7. Doorbell is now installed and online on the TAPO App
  8. Opened doorbell from app and I continued and completed the setup process SUCCESSFULLY
  9. After setup was completed, I went to update the settings
  10. Firmware Update notification popped up
  11. Accepted Firmware update
  12. After about 5 minutes, Doorbell started flashing red and green again
  13. After about 10 minutes, Doorbell is still flashing red and green
  14. Checked the TAPO App and it is showing Doorbell as offline
  15. Left it alone for another 10 minutes and everything remains the same

Since nothing is happened, I assumed firmware update requires the installation to be done again so I started the whole process again

Reinstallation steps

  1. Removed installed doorbell from TAPO App
  2. Removed and forget the TAPO doorbell network from my mobile wifi
  3. Reset the doorbell by pressing the reset button for 5 seconds
  4. Open mobile wifi and connect to the TAPO Doorbell network again
  5. On the TAPO App, click on Add Device, found the doorbell and added it
  6. Selected my 2.4GHz wifi network and entered the SAME password
  7. Doorbell announces 'Connecting to Wifi'
  8. After about 15 seconds, Doorbell starts showing a solid amber light before flashing red
  9. Tapo App show 'Pairing to device'
  10. After a few minutes. TAPO App shows pairing failed
  11. Doorbell shows a solid amber light before flashing red
  12. After about 10 minutes, doorbell suddenly announces 'Wifi password is incorrect'
  13. Thinking I must have accidentally entered the wrong password, I went through the whole reinstallation steps AGAIN
  14. Unfortunately, the same problem occurs 'Wifi password is incorrect'

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Removed Wifi from my existing devices, tablets and reinstalled on Wifi with the same password successfully. Confirmed password is correct and NOT CHANGED
  2. Checked Wifi password on the modem router. Confirmed password is the same and NOT CHANGED
  3. Restarted my modem router and tried installing the doorbell again but same problem 'Wifi password is incorrect' even though it is NOT CHANGED
  4. I RESET my modem router, setup my entire network again with a BRAND NEW password. Reconnected all my existing devices SUCCESSFULLY with the new password. BUT the same problem occurs ONLY with the doorbell and it kept saying 'Wifi password is incorrect'
  5. There is no shut down button for the doorbell so I left it alone for about 20 minutes and it eventually turned off. I then pressed the reset button again, tried the entire setup/installation process but still the same problem occurs 'Wifi password is incorrect'
  6. I finally stopped and send my steps to technical support and got a AUTOMATED reply email within 10 minutes with more troubleshooting steps BUT it is NOT EVEN RELATED TO THE D210 Doorbell!

So now I am here in the forums. Reading through similar issues but NONE could fix my problem. I can only assume my D210 doorbell camera is somehow 'bricked' from the firmware update. Hopefully someone has encountered this same issue, I know someone has but their solution did not work. Greatly appreciate if TAPO Support can figure out a appropriate solution for me. Thank you.

This issue has now been resolved. It appears that the D210 does not allow symbols in the wifi password. Which I do not understand how it manage to connect to the wifi initially before the firmware update. Spent over 6 hours to troubleshoot this. Absolutely ridiculous.
