Setup problem
I go through the quick start guide, go to http://tplink, go through all the steps there, and then it says "ops there is a problem connecting to the internet. But my internet connection is fine. I plug the cable that was in the router into a computer and there is a good connection. I have done this twice. I have rebooted the comcast cable modem and rebooted the router. Same problem.
When I first turn on the router, the first 4 lights are green, but the 5th light is orange.
I am totally sure I have a good internet connection.

I tried connecting it directly to the modem with the cable that came with the router. I still go the amber light.

I was able to set up another router in exactly the same place using exactly the same cables. It is a TP-Link N600. Unless the TP-Link AC1200 is more sensitive, I am going to assume it is defective and return it to Amazon. Is there any other reason that I could set up a TP-Link N600 but have connection problems trying to set up the TP-Link AC1200 in exactly the same place in the network?

Going back to your original issue if the internet light is amber then two things are happening:
1. The modem is not recognizing the new router so it is not giving the router a public IP address. Log into the router and look at the WAN or Internet IP, if it is 0.0.0.0 then the modem needs to have the MAC binding reset, the ISP can do that.
2. The new router has a IP address from the modem, but needs different DNS servers. You would go into the WAN settings of the router, then assign the primary DNS to be 8.8.8.8 and the secondary to 8.8.4.4

I have already returned the router to amazon.
I appreciate your help, but this seems too complicated. With the old router I just pluged it in, went to the setup web page, and that did everything for me.
I am disappointed with TP-Link and will try another brand.
