@camouflage so can it connect to networks requiring login (like Xfinity, specifically the 5GHz one)?

In short no. It wouldn't pull up the web page for entering the login info. It would connect to a known 5g network like my own private 5g but it still wouldn't broadcast it as 2.4. Save your time and multiple headaches with the TP device and get the Gli Beryl.

@camouflage I know the TP Link doesn't (that's what this thread is about), but can the Beryl?

Sorry, yes the GLI Beryl can do that. I have mine connected to a Xfinity 5g wifi hotspot with no problems. https://docs.gl-inet.com/en/3/tutorials/connect_to_a_hotspot_with_captive_portal/ I then repeat this as a private network in 5g but also 2.4g which is my main reason I use this so my smart devices can connect to the web after Xfinity turned off the 2.4g on thier hot spots.

@Kevin_Z Do you think this has anything to do with people trying to connect to the "XFINITY" (secure) SSID versus "xfinitywifi" (unsecure and just authenticated via mac address)? As far as I know, only IOS/Android/macOS/Windows devices capable of downloading the "XFINITY secure profile" (802.1x keys/certs) can connect to "XFINITY." Do you know if the WR902AC is capable of downloading such a profile so that it can automatically connect to "XFINITY" when it's in range?

Also, side question.. as I don't own the WR902AC yet.. but when it's set to rebroadcast a hotspot signal.. does it output a wifi signal of it's own if it's not currently connected to the internet via said hotspot? For example does it automatically try and connect to a list of hotspots and ONLY broadcast it's own private wifi signal when and if it's successfully connected to one of the hotspots and reaching the internet?

Thanks in advance

@acousticbiker I had the same issue, please download the latest firmware https://static.tp-link.com/upload/firmware/2022/202207/20220711/TL-WR902AC(US)_V3_220329.zip and install it. And then setup the Wireless Ghz option in router. I had the same issue and after the firmware update the issue was resolved.

It sounds like you have taken the proper steps in authenticating the travel router with Xfinity WiFi. Have you tried resetting the router and then reconnecting it?
