Model: Archer A7
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 5.6

I am trying to set up an Archer A7 (AC1750) as an Access Point in my existing home network.

I know that to setup, I need to connect the Archer Internet Port to a LAN port on the home router.

My question is, once configured, does the Archer need to remain connected through a LAN cable or will it work over WiFi?

I have configured it and once configured disconnected the LAN cable.

I can connect to the Archer, but no internet access.

If it can work over WiFi, can soneone tell me steps I am missing or doing wrong?

@bmontena1

I would recommend setting up the router as an access point where the Ethernet cable will go from the LAN of the main router to the WAN of the A7 (Ethernet must stay connected). You will have a stable connection and a chance for better speed.

You could make the A7 work off of Wi-Fi, but the setup is a bit confusing, and have seen the connection drop before so it is not a favorite of mine.

Here is how you would set it up to work only on Wi-Fi: link

Re:ARCHER A7 (AC1750) as Access Point - How do I mesh with my RE300 Range Extender?

@bmontena1  Installed my Archer A7 as Access Point but noticed my RE300 does not look like it is connected to it.  I happening to have two Wifi's with the same name and password.  One is connected to Archer A7  in the cloud and the other, RE300 is connected with the other same name Wifi.  I think I must have done something wrong.  Can you help me correct it.  Thank you.  Imma

@Tony sorry to cut I. But I was wondering if these are the same basic directions I would use for the archer ax3000?

@Tony I have the TP link A7. I have set it up to work fine with the ethernet cable connected. Now I want to disconnect the ethernet cable and move the extender to another location and have it work strictly wireless, no cable. I can not figure out how to make it work without the ethernet cable plugged in. I cannot find any helpful information on the internet to make that happen.Help....

@sbaker

Hello, what's the make and model of the host router? Use this guide for building WDS with A7.

If you use the 2.4GHz band for building the WDS, set a static wireless channel on the host wireless modem/router (select one of these 1/6/11).

If you use the 5GHz-1 band for building the WDS, set a static wireless channel on the host wireless modem/router (select one of these 36/40/44/48).

When WDS is successfully built, its status should be RUN.

Try moving devices closer to each other to test if the distance between them is not an issue.
