iPhone iOS 14 recognizing the Deco wireless network as "weak security"
If you have since updated your iPhone you may see the Deco Wi-Fi shown as having weak security. This is due to the Deco supporting WPA/WPA2 (TKIP) by default for compatibility purposes. The iPhone now recognizes WPA as a weak security type. This may also be the same with other security suites with the similar notification.
If you feel you would like to switch your wireless security to either WPA2-PSK (AES) or WPA2-PSK (AES)+WPA-PSK (TKIP) you can download and install the following beta firmware. Future firmware will also have that ability in the future.
User method 2 of this FAQ that shows how you would upload the firmware: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1599/
*Note* If you have the Deco M9 Plus v2, and you currently have firmware 1.2.x ("x" being any number), then you need to download this firmware, extract it, and use the utility which is linked in the .pdf to update it (link)

Hi, I just sent up my 3 pack of Deco Mesh 9+ units. Hardware version 2.8, firmware v1.2.12 which the app says is the latest firmware I'm using them in access point mode. My iphones are giving me the weak security message. Based on the date of the post I'm replying to I'm surprised there is no official firmware release to fix this issue by now. Hard to believe I paid $200 for obsolete firmware. My questions are:
1. I don't see any beta firmware to fix this listed for hardware version 2.8. Am I missing something?
2. The links for the installation utility go to the tp-link download page but I see no utility download. The note in red gives explicit instructions for V2 hardware. Do I follow that?
Please tell me where to find the utility and exactly what Beta firmware version I should be using.
Thank you.

Hi, welcome to the community.
The official firmware which allows to change the security mode and fix the weak security issue has been released already:
How to Update the Firmware of Deco (method 3 via upgrade tool)

Thank you very much.

I'm really disappointed that YEARS LATER my clients are still unable to update their expensive M9 firmware directly from the app. I can no longer recommend TPlink products for their home automation and network needs. No more lightbulbs, switches, network routers, smart plugs or deco extensions.
