I just bought the TP-LINK UB400 Bluetooth 4.0 Nano USB Adapter

 

I have Win10, so I put it into a USB 2.0 Slot - but no joy. In the meantime I tried it on about 6 different USB 2.0 and 3.0 slots, same result: 

 

a) In the Device List, I can see the following appearing when I plug it in: Universal Serial Bus Controllers: CSR BlueCore Bluetooth
b) There is NO bluetooth section in the device manager. So the system has not yet regonized, that there is bluetooth enabling hardware plugged in.
c) When i go to Settings, bluetooth and other devices, I can see it under "Other devices". It simply says: dongle. 

What I tried: 
1) I right clicked on CSR BlueCore Bluetooth, then update drivers, search automatically. I already have the latest version. If I got to it's properties, it says: 
Driver Provider: Cambridge Silicon Radio
Driver Date: 26-Oct-12
Driver Version: 2.4.0.0

2) I've tried "remove" from the device list, then unplugged it, and plugged it in again: Everything is back the same like I describe on 1)
3) Like I said, I tried different USB Slots. Some on my USB Tray in the front of the PC, but also some on the back of the tower. USB 2/USB 3, tried both.

Bluetooth is classified as a network interface so the adapter should be under network adapters.  What shows there?  You can also go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings and see if the adapter is listed here.  If so make sure its enabled. 

 

Also go into Control Panel > System and Security > Admin Tools > Services and make sure the Bluetooth services are all "started"

It's not listed under Change Adapter Settings: 

 

 

 

and it's not under Network Adapters: 

 

 

The services were not all started, so I started them. But nothing changed.

After you started the services did you reboot your computer?  If not remove the adapter and reboot the PC then place the adapter back in and see if it detects and installs the driver if not we can do a precautionary RMA to see if its the adapter or if its something else on the PC.

No I did not, but just did it now. Unfortunately it didnt change anything.

So yes, I just tried again, because I did not plug it in in the back. Same result though: nothing changes. 
Then did it once more and this time used an USB-3 Port in the back, but no joy. 

 

Just googled what an RMA is, I have no idea how this'll work. I don't have the packaging anymore to return it, I ripped it out, threw it away... never thought, that it wouldn't work right away.

We don't need the package.  Just the product itself.  All you need to do is register it at https://myproducts.tp-link.com/login?redirect=%2Fproduct and upload a image of your proof of purchase.

I live in Switzerland, and bought it here. it says I should register it somewhere else....

 Hi , when i insert tp-link Bluetooth 4.0 Nano USB adapter in my pc on windows 10 and go in settings to connect my headphones  to my pc it comes written Dongle and under that their is written Driver error . And I bought this bluetooth adapter 2 weeks ago

it's already been too long ago, but I got everything to work. 
I dont remember exactly what I did but it came to this: 

 

I looked at the devices. Somewhere I switched on, to see all devices, also the faulty ones. There were like 3-4 bluetooth faulty devices, I uninstalled these drivers. 
after that it was ok again. It was a conflict with those faulty drivers. 

 

as for tp-link, I think I already had sent it back.
