Model: Archer C5400X
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.2 Build 20191223 rel.73956

Just upgraeded my internet service to gigabit fiber. On speed test through the Tether app its showing direct speeds to the router of over 900Mbps down and over 850Mbps up, but on speed test from wifi connected devices I'm only getting around 300 to 400 Mbps to the device. Is there any way to boost the wifi speeds closer to full gigabit?

thanks

Maybe, but more info is needed?

Wifi isn't enough. What is the Wifi device? What is its 802.11 speed rating, N, AC, AX? How is it connected to your PC, built-in, USB 2.0, 3.x?

What did you have before for ISP speed?

Did you get a faster WiFi connection then? If so, using the same SSID then, so maybe the Wifi device needs to FORGET the old network and connect anew?

"What is the Wifi device? What is its 802.11 speed rating, N, AC, AX? How is it connected to your PC, built-in, USB 2.0, 3.x?"

Lots of devices. Similar story on each, Here are some examples

  • Iphone X
    • 802.11ac - 866 Mbps
    • Last Wifi Speed Test: 379 down / 351 up
  • 2013 MacBook Pro

    • 802.11ac - 867Mbps

    • Last Wifi Speed Test: 398 down / 460 up

  • 2019 Macbook Pro

    • 802.11ac - 1300 Mbps

    • Last Wifi Speed Test: 418 down / 440 up

  • PS5

    • 802.11ax

    • Last Wifi Speed Test: 139 down / 147 up

"What did you have before for ISP speed?"

  • 100Mbps down and up.
  • Averaged ~90Mbps down/up in speedtest.
  • Same ISP, they just upgraded our building to gigabit

"Did you get a faster WiFi connection then? If so, using the same SSID then, so maybe the Wifi device needs to FORGET the old network and connect anew?"

Since originally posting i did a full factory reset with new SSID and have seen no change in speeds

Additional I did some more wired testing with the 2013 MacBook (only device close enough with appropriate adapter) and was only able to get between 400-500Mbps down, but 800+Mbps up. So even wired I'm not seeing full gigabit, at least not for download.

Sorry to jump in, have you checked the QoS settings on the Archer C5400X? You can follow this article to review the settings:

@Kevin_Z

I actually did try some different QoS setting before originally posting here, just tried some again after following the link you posted. The article didn't prescribe any specific setting to resolve the issues I'm experiencing, but did I try different combinations of device and application priority, and tried setting the Total Bandwidth to Manual with 1000Mbps up and down. I saw no change in speeds with any combination of QoS settings. I'm willing to explore further if there is some more specific setting combination I should try.

Don't confuse CONNECTION SPEED with THROUGHPUT.

I have 400Mbps ISP speed and it is over provisioned to 480Mpbs. Even my GB wired can only reach that speed. My Wireless, since they are USB 3.0 which only has a 480 capability does 400Mbps. I have 2, a 1200 and 1300Mbps Connection speed. When on a USB 2.0, I can hardly get 250Mbps.

To get the GB service I'll assume the router was changed? Have you powered everything off, modem, router, and devices. Then turned the modem on and wait for it to fully come up, then the router, and lastly the devices? Might help.

What happens when you connect the MacBook to the modem directly? Since the UP speed is reasonable, it does suggest QoS settings I'd think?
