Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.5.3 Build 20210203 Rel. 68223

Hello,

I've bought the Deco M5 (3-pack) back in AUG2019. This thing has been wonderful! One of the best IT purchases I've made in a long time!

However, for a few months now, about once every 1-2 weeks, my wired connections to the main Deco M5 router loses network. The wireless connections (devices and the other two pucks) usually continue to work without issue. A few cases this was not the case. I had this happen again today.

Performing an IP refresh does not resolve the issue (ipconfig /release && ipconfig /renew). Restarting the wired switch connected to it also does not resolve the issue. The only solution is to power cycle the main Deco M5 router.

I would naturally think the issue was the switch, however, a power cycle of the switch does nothing.

This switch is a Linksys switch setup in Bridge Mode and only forwards traffic from the Deco M5 to the wired devices.

  • DHCP is off on this switch.
  • Wireless is off on this Switch.
  • It even gets its IP from the Deco M5 router it is connected to.
  • The Deco M5 handles all DHCP Reservations.

Has anyone else seen anything like this?

My setup is connected as such:

Hello, For the sake of argument, I purchased a TL-SG108E and have replaced the Linksys E4200 switch. I will be monitoring and will reply back if this happens again. Thank you for your prompt attention!

@JohnMor

Hi, thank you very much for your kind reply.

I might need to follow up on your case by email and could you please help me check the following information:

May I know the model number of the Linksys switch?

Could you please help me save a screenshot of the IP settings on the laptops?

And are you still able to ping the LAN IP of Deco as well as the Google DNS 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4?

  3. And are you still able to ping the LAN IP of Deco as well as the Google DNS 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4?
    • When this happens, I have no IP assigned. Next time I'll try to hard code the IP and try again.

@JohnMor

Thanks a lot for the update.

I would like to forward your case to the senior engineers for further assistance.

Since the frequency of problems is relatively low but it does affect all the wired clients, it would be highly appreciated that you could give us a notification via email first,

Or mark down the exact time of the issue and save the system log before rebooting the main Deco.

Thank you again.

How do you save the system log? I assume that the log gets overwritten between power cycles?

@JohnMor

Hi, you could save logs from the web UI, and yes, it would be overwritten after reboot so it needs to be saved before the reboot.

And I have seen that you have emailed us some logs already.

Thank you very much.
