We have a combination of six TP-PA4010s and two TP-WPA4220s in use at home and for the last year or two the Wi-Fi has become very unreliable, requiring the TP-WPA4220s to be constantly switched off and on again. I read elsewhere on the forum that the 2019 firmware might be to blame, and that a downgrade to a v4 2018 firmware might improve things. However, I have no idea where to download older firmware from! Only the latest seems to be available via tp-link?

 

Any help or pointers much appreciated!

Hey @HavingFun ,

We do not normally recommend to downgrading firmware until the issue occurs since the firmware update. 

May I know WPA4220  is of (UK ) version or  ( EU) version on its back label? 

 

When WiFi stops working on WPA4220, does the wired connection (computer wire to 4220) work fine at that time?

You could login to Web page of WPA4220, lower the wifi channel width to 20Mhz , select a different 2.4Ghz channel  for WPA4220 and see if that helps (download wifi analyzer app and select a relatively idle wifi channel )

You could  log in web interface of powerline unit by following instruction to change wireless settings  or upgrade firmware:

The WPA4220 units are UK models.

 

We will firstly try adjusting the channel width and see if that makes a difference. Troubleshooting has been difficult in the past, but the issue does seem to have begun since we upgraded the firmware back in 2019. We just didn't make the connection with the upgrade as a possible cause until checking other forum entries here recently. I have learned in the past that changing too many things at once makes it hard to identify where the problem might be.

 

We will see what happens next.
