Model: Deco X20
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.1.1 Build 20210723 Rel. 57605

Hi -

Using Windows Built-In VPN to connect to my work Remote Access. Was working fine before the latest Firmware Update (after I've allowed VPN passthrough on AT&T router and installed Deco X20 mesh system as router). After update, I'm getting a L2TP error and won't connect. PLEASE HELP!

@QueenaDarren

Hi, Did Deco X20 work on the wireless router or access point mode?

If on the wireless router, please check whether you have set up parental control rules on this computer.

And please also turn off the Antivirus/firewall on the X20 to have a look.

If possible, since there Is already an AT&T router, could you mind changing Deco X20 to access point mode, then confirm whether the L2TP VPN is working properly?

Thank you very much.

@TP-Link Hi,

Deco X20 worked on wireless router mode.

No parental control rules on this computer nor anything.

After setting the Deco X20 into Access Point mode, it did not work. Now my internet from the Deco X20 isn't working and I can't access the Deco unit anymore.

Antivirus/firewall are all off.

I'm not sure why the AT&T router wouldn't work before but after installing the Deco X20 in router mode (when I first got it), everything worked just fine before the firmware update. Can we roll back the firmware update or reset the Deco X20 to factory defaults?

@QueenaDarren

Hi, thank you for the update.

The firmware 1.1.1 could not be downgraded back to 1.0.9.

And we tested on our side with the new firmware, the VPN connection is ok.

May I know the model number of your AT&T router and would the L2TP VPN connection work if the PC is connected to the AT&T router?

THe L2TP VPN connection does not work if it's connected directly via Ethernet to the AT&T router. It only works through my hotspot on my phone.

@QueenaDarren

Thanks for the update.

In this way, I think it might not be the firmware, or not completely caused by the firmware.

The firmware might trigger something on the service provider side.

Could you please try to check with the senior engineers as well to see if there is anything related?

@QueenaDarren I have the same problem since November on a Deco M9 plus 1.2. Firmware 1.2.11 build 20190926 rel 55727
VPN pass through worked previously for years, now it does not.
I tried access point, bridging and now as the only router connected.
Did factory reset without result.
PC connects fine when I by pass the router on network or hotspot.
Tried both wired and wifi with the same result.
