I have a Deco M9 Plus 2x pack (1.5.2 Build 20210223 Rel. 35265) running as in a Mesh network.

 

When come to a "slow Internet speed spot" (not exactly a blind spot) in the house it is slower for some WiFi devices.

 

And so I purchased and installed a Deco M3W (1.0.7 Build 20210106 Rel. 65893) hopefully to boost up the signal and hence WiFi speed.

 

After the deployment, to my disappointment, a Internet speed test using my mobile at the "slow internet speed spot" of the house:

 

  - Through the original WiFi of the Deco M9 Plus - 23Mbps/171Mbps UP/DOWN

 

  - Through the newly deployed WiFi of the Deco W3W - 23Mbps/52Mbps UP/DOWN

 

What is wrong with the Deco M3W, where it is deployed to stronger signal and hence speed, for 1/3 of the download speed?

 

It's making it worse than improvement! I don't use QoS nor Fast Roaming.

 

Any suggestion? Thank you.

 

If Deco M3W is not helping to speed up I will have to return it.

As for your last inquiry about the specs “the 867m/s for 5ghz, 300m/z”, they all refer to wireless link rates.

Searching from the internet, you will see the link rate is widely used to advertise routers by many different brands.

Since the internet download/upload speed is influenced by all kinds of factors, like distance and barriers, we will never specifically state an internet speed.

Understood that there are combinations and permutations of factors that may affect the Internet speed of a router extender.

 

Through the tests that have been conducted, I'm sure if I placed the M3W just next to the M9 Plus the Internet speed of the M3W will still be way below (a fraction of) the Internet speed the M9 can provide me. And this is under the condition and with the expectation that the Internet speed is well under the maximum WiFi speed as advertised in the specs for the two products.

 

Deco M9 Plus:

5 GHz: 867 Mbps (802.11ac)
5 GHz: 867 Mbps (802.11ac)
2.4 GHz: 400 Mbps (802.11n)

 

Deco M3W:

5 GHz: 867 Mbps (802.11ac)
2.4 GHz: 300 Mbps (802.11n)

 

Looking at the specs of the two, perhaps the M3W can only pick up one of the two 5GHz channels and utilise that for extension. In that case your colleage might have a point in saying that the throughtput transmist through M3W will be half of that if transmit through the M9 in the same test environment.

In my case it is not half but it's 1/3.
