Model: Archer A7
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.1.3 Build 20210519 rel. 50574

Hi,

   I was using the Archer A7 as the router on my Verizon FIOS home network.  My son gave me his Verizon G-1100 router since he no longer needed it and I decided to make it the router and convert the Archer to an access point to improve signal coverage in my home.

   Ethernet cabling connects the WAN port of the Archer to a LAN port of the G-1100 and I selected Access Point mode in the Archer setup and saved.  According to the Archer A7 manual, it is as simple as that.

   However, any device that connects wirelessly to the Archer has no internet access.  For instance, a smart plug in the same room as the Archer is now offline.  If my phone connects throught the Archer, it has no internet connectivity. Tether currently shows four clients and they are all unreachable.

   Any thoughts?

@Kevin_Z

Thanks for responding.

I finally got back to this project and achieved success.

Set mode to AP.

Assigned static IP address to AP.

Disabled DHCP on AP.

Connected main router and Archer A7 access point via LAN plugs on each end.

Follow up to my post -

   Should the SSID's and pw's at the access point be different that those of the router?

@donles

Hello, the SSIDs and passwords on the Archer A7 can be different from those on the Verizon G-1100, they can also be the same, but I would suggest using different SSIDs so that we can distinguish different networks.

If you connect a computer to the Verizon G-1100 directly with the same cable, just remove it from the WAN of the A7 and plug it into the Ethernet port of the computer, can you get access to the internet? What's the IP address on the computer? I would suggest checking advanced settings on the Verizon G-1100 to exclude any that may block the access point to connect to the internet.

BTW, I didn't see any point in creating different SSID's or PW's so I kept them the same.
