I have a Virgin Media hub in modem mode - I allow the Decos to manage the network.

I was told this was better than changing the Decos to be switches and allow the Hub to manage the network.

However doing this blocks all but one ethernet port on the Hub, which connects to the Deco.

However, I now am finding I may need to add more wired things to the network.

Can I buy a simple switch and connect it to one of the ports on the back of the main Deco unit and then run other things from that?

Was thinking something similar to the TP-Link 5-port switch, but not sure if you can get unpowered versions?

Or should I put the Virgin Media hub back in normal mode and change the Decos to be switches?

I am a little afraid to change anything as it works fine as it is now but as I say, I may need to add two or three extra bits that could do with being wired instead of Wifi.

@DukeCaboom

Hi, it is ok to add another unmanaged switch behind the main Deco.

And the following link might provide more details:

@TP-Link Thanks for the reply!

I've looked at the link but not sure if it explains as well.

So can I have:

Router - Deco - Switch - Ethernet things

                         - Deco 2 - Wireless things

                         - Deco 3 - Wireless things

The three Deco's are connected wirelessly as there's no opportunity for hard wiring. One satellite has a hard wired connection to a PC (as the PC doesn't have WiFi).

The switch is not WiFi enabled.

The modem is connected by wire to the Main Deco unit. The other ethernet port I'd use to connect the switch.

Thanks
