AX73 as AP with static IP = no DNS
AX73 as AP with static IP = no DNS

Model: Archer AX73
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.0 Build 20211222 rel.74632(5553)

I have two AX73 routers setup in Access Point mode and set with a static IP address outside the DHCP scope . DHCP is turned off on the AX73's so it is a pass-through from the main cable modem/router. All the AP clients get their DHCP leases correctly from the main router and can access the internet without a problem. The issue I'm seeing is that WAN led is orange that I assume because there is no DNS entry option when setup with a static address. There is no automatic firmware checking and it won't sync the clock since it can't resolve the time server either.  Every other brand router I've configured has DNS as an option when configured with a static IP.

I'm getting nowhere with emailing support and wondering if anyone has come across this or if I'm missing something.

TIA

@Qurius

Can you confirm how did you configure the two AX73s to be Access Points? Case 1 or Case 2:

Configure the TP-Link wireless router as Access Point?

It's suggested to try Case 1, and leave the IP settings by default, then check if the issues will go.

  @Kevin_Z  The AX53 has the option to switch modes. It is configured in Access Point Mode as described in Case 1.  As I mentioned if it is set to DHCP for the interface the WAN light is green. When the interface is set to static the WAN light is orange and and an explanation point appears for the Internet on the Home page.

@Qurius

Is there a reason why you need to set a static IP address for the AX73? You can leave it by DHCP, then configure an Address Reservation for it on the host router, will it help?
