On my LAN, I get 106-124 Mbits/sec wireless-to-wired and 250-260 Mbits/sec when wired over powerline. These speeds are below the ratings for the hardware. While I don't expect to get 100% of the advertised speed, any advice on how to improve speed?

 

I tested using iperf3 software and this setup

 

Laptop 1: Dell Latitude 5590 ethernet or wireless, acting as iperf3 client, less than 5 feet from secondary P9 Deco

Laptop 2: Lenovo IdeaPad 330S-15IKB ethernet only, acting as iperf3 server, wired to main P9 Deco

Nice to see you again.

As for the fast roaming security feedback, it has been forwarded to the senior engineers and could you mind also sending an email to security@tp-link.com so that you could have a direct conversation with the engineer directly.

For the LAN speed issue, I see the iperf client and server are from different Deco P9 and for the powerline Deco, the powerline interference plays an important role.

So I wonder are you able to help me run the same iperf test but on the same Deco, either main or satellite units so that I can check whether the issue might be related to the transfer speed between Mesh nodes.

 

And as for the signal source on the satellite P9, Is it PLC/2.4GHZ+5GHZ?

I connected the two laptops (both in airplane mode) directly to my Actiontec C3000A DSL modem. This bypassed the TP-Link, so it's a control test to determine the maximum speed of other devices, in case they are the issue. The best speed of three tests was 935 Mbits/sec, so the laptops are fine.

 

The speed with both laptops connected to the same Deco satellite (called "living room") was 850Mbits/sec. While the Deco network switching was a bit slower than the DSL model, it was much faster as you suspected.

 

I moved both satellites ("loft" and "living room") to different outlets in the same room, and I plugged one laptop into each. The speed was mediocre again at 147Mbits/second, so the Deco backhaul is the suspect.

 

I plugged both satellites into the same outlet (with one laptop per satellite again). Four tests varied from 45.4 to 132 Mbits/sec. This was a direct connection to a normal outlet without a surge protector, UPS battery, smart electric plug, or anything.

 

In case the issue was one satellite, I connected both laptops to the other satellite ("loft"), and speed was 859 Mbits/second, so both satellites performed about the same. The backhaul still seems like the problem.

 

The satellites always show the signal source as the main ("office") followed by "2.4 GHz/5 GHz ~ PLC". (I suppose that means both Powerline and wifi, and for troubleshooting, it would be helpful to toggle them separately.)

 

Metronet is installing fiber optic in my neighborhood, and I will upgrade from 80Mbps DSL to 500Mbps fiber, so soon this performance issue will be less theoretical.
