I loved the performance I was getting with my re450 v1.  I have a cable connection with a 1 GB Internet.

From my main PC plugged into the port on the  re450 v1 I could get 450-490MB/s easy. I "upgraded' and bought a re450 v4 (In order to have the extra features, including OneMesh) and now same everything I am lucky to get 100MB/s.  Even if I turn off everything as to make it as close to the original as possible.  Any ideas??

Kevin.

PS. Sold my old one before testing dammit!!

  @Datamage

I've read it could be a speed issue with the actual port on 1.0.4 firmware.

Hello   @Datamage

If  computer can only get less100Mbps when wired to the RE450

1. please confirm the Ethernet cable is cat5 and above and the wired Link speed should be 1 GB.

How to check the associated/link speed on a wired client

You could try a different Ethernet cable between RE and the PC.

2. Make sure both 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz Leds are On the RE450 this means RE has linked to router's 5Ghz wifi band

3. Confirm the router's Wifi speed is fine at the range extender's location

If still the same, can you help confirm some case details here

1. at RE's location, run speedtest of router's Wi-Fi and share the speed test result  +  link speed on a wireless client

2 .Wired speed of RE' and wired link speed

Btw, how about the 5Ghz Wi-Fi speed of the RE450, is it faster? What is the model of the router? Thanks

  @Solla-topee

Thanks for the reply.

Link is 1GB And testing 1 foot away from the RE450 with my iphone I got 455-460 from the router. It's an Archer AX55.

All cables are cat6.

Tried my desktop plugged in, and my laptop plugged in. Both get the 1GB link.  Fastest I got in about 10 tries between the 2 was 210MB.  No where near the 400s I got with the v1 re450.

Like I said everything is exactly the same, just swapped the v1 with the v4. It's really weird.

  @Datamage

Appreciated for providing more case details.

I recommend adjusting the height of location, and place the extender facing towards the router with clear line of sight, no obstacles. Put  router and extender as close as possible.

How to place your wireless Range Extender for optimal reception and performance

You could also try high speed mode for the range extender and use 5Ghz band to link to router, therefore Ethernet will get the speed from 5Ghz Wi-Fi band, other Wi-Fi network devices will use 2.4Ghz, this will help rule out if it's related to Ethernet port is using 2.4Ghz/5Ghz.

How to configure High Speed Mode in my Range Extender (new logo)

Make sure router 5Ghz channel width is on 80Mhz. Use a Wi-Fi scan app like Wi-Fi analyzer and select the less crowded 5Ghz Wi-Fi channel for a test.

Btw, what is the model of your iPhone, if iPhone receives 460Mbps speed at ac@5Ghz, the RE received speed is also around that speed; as extender works in half-duplex, the speed can be around 200Mbps or higher.

  @Solla-topee

I understand what you are saying, but I don't think it's halved on the port.  OR maybe it is now, but it wasn't on the v1??

I've moved things around a bit, but no difference. It's literally like it's running at half speed or less. The v1 was pumping out to the port what it received.

Please remember this was just a swap, one older device to a newer one. Same settings, same location etc...

  @Datamage

Here's a different approach.

First pic is Wired, then the 450 V1

Second pic is the 450 v4 I have now.

All settings the same and exact same placement.

  @Datamage

Ok.  So I confirmed I'm not nuts.  I bought a tp-link 450 v1 extender on Kijiji and have it hooked back up in my office.

Average speeds 460-490MB. The New Improved v4, speeds of 120-190MB. Sometimes newer is NOT better.

Someone at TP-Link wanna fix it?

PS. Anyone wanna buy a v4?   ;)
