ANYONE ELSE BUY ONE OF THE DESK PAPER WEIGHTS?

Can not enable the 5GHZ mode because it says not supported in your country

BUT says the same on any country I connect to!

Support will not help even after I waited on hold for help for 3.5 hours

So I complain here first

then I will do  a youtube video where I SMASH the router.

This is TRULY the WORST PRODUCT I EVER USED IN MY LIFE AS A CISCO CCIE.

DO NOT BUY ONE

Sorry to hear about your experience,  @robertlasvegas

When you say you are connect to another country, is this through a VPN? If you try disabling the VPN does the same prompt appear?

Are you trying to use this router inside of the United States, or another region where 5Ghz has been approved?

This prompt appears as a result of a few possible situations:

The Device was made to be sold in a country that has not authorized 5G Connections, so the antennae were disabled.

The Device is looking at the IP or another attribute to automatically determine the location of the router.

You are trying to use a device internationally

If you can provide more information about your situation and what may be causing the disable band, I would be more than happy to help

  @Riley_S

Hi Riley!

The device was purchased online, from a reputable retail vendor in the same country for its use.  It is used base simple config, no vpn,

 - simply a router after a fiber modem that output 1GB down 500MB up.

I have included a picture of bottom of router so you can see it is shows US.

d6fff7b06744442aa026844c0f54996c

 The issue began after the firmware was upgraded from the base factory release level.

Product firmware on arrival

ArcherC2300v1_us-up-1.0.1_Build_20170302_Rel.28711

After first upgrade to

Archer C2300(US)_V1_170922

antennas for 5g were killed,

tried next level

c2300v1_us-up-2.0.3_Build_20180611_Rel.77668_sign_2018-06-12_09.58.27

still antennas for 5g were killed,

tried most current  level

c2300v1_us-up-2.0.4_Build_20210705_Rel.68265_sign_2021-07-05_18.59.06

now this is what I see   (second image shows 5g antennas disabled - FOR NO VALID REASON.   No way this device querried its GPS location.

I may not have the answer, but have you looked at the Channel in the Advanced Wireless settings for 5G?

f84c2baefb514480a0be43bac6d3e391

It might be set to a Channel you can't use that require DFS and TPC which the router probably doesn't have?

===============================

UNII-2

The UNII-2 section also contains four channels – 52, 56, 60, and 64. They occupy bandwidths from 5,250MHz to 5,350MHz. This range is also referred to as UNII-2A. The UNII-2B range sits between 5,350MHz and 5,470MHz. The UNII-2C/UNII-2 Extended range is found between 5,470MHz and 5,725MHz. This range includes channels from 100 to 140. In order to use this range, your device needs to be equipped with Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) and Transmit Power Control (TPC). These ensure it doesn’t interfere with weather stations, radars, and military devices.

================================

Channel 40 would probably be good with and 80Mhz channel width probably.

At least that is what I think you ran into?

Sorry if I am wrong.

  @robertlasvegas

hello Robert

there are a few things that can be tried.  1.  Like @IrvSp  said go to Advanced > Wireless > Wireless Settings and see what  5GHz is showing.  If you are on a channel that is outside of our regional limits then switching to a US usable channel may result in full operation of the 5GHz band.  Something like this can happen if a out of region firmware is loaded and you are set to a channel spectrum available to that specific region.  For example Channel 13 on 2.4GHz.  That is available in EU but not in the US.  2 If that does not work then I would suggest contacting our support team so we can engage with our engineers and have them do a deep dive into this concern for you.
