Model: RE200
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version:

Hi!

I'm trying to use my RE200 V3 as a wired access point (directly connected through a Ethernet cable to my ISP's router using a Cat6 cable).

Using both an iPhone 12 and a Lenovo Thinkpad Laptop to test, the RE200 configured as an Access Point gives ≈35Mbps down on the 2.4Ghz band, and ≈95Mbps on the 5.8Ghz band. I get around 630Mbps down on a wired connection from my ISP's router to my pc.

My question is - shouldn't the 2.4Ghz network allow download speeds closer to the 100Mbps mark, considering its Ethernet port is limited to 100Mbps? Why am I getting 65Mbps less than the bottleneck (which is the Ethernet port of the RE200 at 100Mbps) when this device is rated for a Theoretical 300Mbps down at 2.4Ghz?

Thank you,

  @gonzadd

Hi, 2.4ghz is easily got influenced by network interference nearby since many signals also transmit over the same wireless frequency-2400 to 2483.5 Mhz, like Bluetooth/Microwave/other 2.4ghz signals. Normally its speed would be less than 5ghz. 300m/s is the theoretical speed of RE200, it is also suggested to refer to this link to check the theoretical speed on your mobile clients:

How to check the associated/link speed on a wireless client

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

Hi @David-TP, thank you for your response. Congestion might definitely be an issue - it's an apartment building with many 2.4Ghz networks nearby. Although I understand 300Mbps is theoretical as you mentioned - 100Mbps seems realistic to achieve on a 2.4Ghz network

I performed additional testing on my Lenovo Thinkpad E14 (equipped with Intel AC 9560) and after disabling my ISP's 2.4Ghz band and only broadcasting the RE200's 2.4Ghz band, I'm now reaching about 65Mbps down. I'm going to assume congestion is the issue that won't allow reaching a download speed closer to 100Mbps, since many signals are occupying the network space nearby.

Checking ncpa.cpl as you suggested (same Lenovo laptop) it states 6.0Mbps speed, which is a little odd. The RE200 and the laptop are about 2-3 meters away.

Hope you have a great week,
