About two weeks ago me open vpn stopped connecting due to a certificate mismatch. I generated a new Certificate and then updated the router. The router has been running, the vpn still gives same error. everytime I log into the router it gives me the message that it's updating still. Not really sure what to do here and looking for advice.

Are you able to log into the rotuer locally?  If so, what i would recommend is disable the VPN.  Rebooting the router and then reestablish the VPN and download the certificate. Then try again.
